Reading
Class B will be exploring
myths and legends to
complement our English
work. We will be identifying
and discussing themes and
conventions whilst
continuing to develop
various skills such as
reference to the texts;
higher order skills of
inference; structural
organisation and authors’
intent.
Number/Calculation
Using sequences we will
explore place value and
negative numbers; Roman
Numerals to 1000; written
methods for multiplication
and division will be used for
calculating large numbers.
We will simplify and
calculate with fractions.
English
Writing
We will be identifying
features of Free Verse Poetry
and Legends and use this to
create our own creative and
exciting poems and legends.
Class B will be focusing on
using a variety of sentence
structure for impact; powerful
language and poetic
techniques and using a wider
range of sentence openers.
Speaking & Listening
The children will be using
interesting expression and
descriptive vocabulary
effectively to grab the
interest of the listener. They
will also be respectfully
listening to other people’s
opinions and build on what
others say. We will be
exploring the language of
Shakespeare and his plays.
Maths
Measurement and Geometry
We will be plotting, reflecting and translating 2D shapes on
four quadrants and looking at their properties.
In measurement we will be learning about temperature,
positive and negative and average.

Spring Term 1
Ancient Greece
History
Geography
Class B will be delving back in time to
Ancient Greece. Discovering the
similarities and differences between
Athens and Sparta and answering
question such as: Was the battle of
Marathon a great Victory for the Greeks?
Who did the Greeks worship and why? We
will be learning about Greek theatres and
the Olympic games.
Class Budgerigar will be exploring maps
and investigating physical features of
Greece and create our own ancient
map.
Art and Design
Design and Technology
Learning the primary, secondary,
complementary and contrasting colours
and using these to create an imaginative
mythical creature inspired by our poetry.
Explore crafts and use observations to
create pottery.
Music
The children will be analysing film trailers
to explore how music is used to enhance
the drama. They will use this knowledge
to inform their own composition to
accompany a film trailer of their choice.
Science
Computing
Investigating forces and
gravity and the effects of
opposite forces, we will
learn about Sir Isaac
Newton and his three laws
of motion. Scientific enquiry
will explore the effects of
friction.
Children will use written
commands to design and
draw repeated patterns using
the Logo software. We will
use a written script to
produce a procedure and
finally add colour to a
repeating pattern.
Personal, Social and
Health Education
We will be identifying a
wide range of potential
dangers in their community.
The children will think about
how they have learned to
respond to a range of risks
and hazards by applying
safety skills.
Covered last term.
French
The children will find out about French
speaking countries in Africa. They will
make comparisons with France. There
is an opportunity to exchange
information on their local area with a
school abroad.
Religious Education
Physical Education
In religious education we will be building
upon our learning about Hinduism and
how they believe God is conceptualised in
different ways. We will be learning about
reincarnation and the concept of moksha,
dharma and karma. We will explore the
customs associated with death.
The children will be taught to
demonstrate contrasting, matching and
mirroring balances and movements; to
work in pairs to construct, practise,
evaluate and improve sequences from
floor to apparatus.
In outdoor P.E children will develop a
range of ball skill and apply this in net
games.
