Women’s Funding Alliance is the only organization across Washington State dedicated solely to advancing leadership and economic opportunity for women and girls. For more than 30 years, we have lead the way to improve lives and create lasting change. Working together with thousands of individuals and community partners, we have brought critical issues to light and mobilized our community to take new action. Because of our investments and advocacy, Washington State has a stronger, more impactful ecosystem of women and girl serving organizations. Over the next six years, the full scope of our resources will be dedicated to initiatives which advance leadership and economic opportunity. By 2020: More women and girls will speak up and lead in classrooms, board rooms and throughout our community Women will be able to better provide for themselves and their families Girls will be confident, making healthy choices and on the path to thriving 2 Women’s Funding Alliance (continued) Each of our initiatives share the same robust recipe for success: Make the case Women’s Funding Alliance conducts research, analyzes key trends and solutions, gathers stories and seeks expert input from women and girls to inform our strategies. We share our findings broadly with influencers and decision-makers throughout the state. Drive solutions From making strategic grant investments in effective solutions, to convening community leaders to expand best practices and advocating for game-changing policies, Women’s Funding Alliance is an instigator and driver. We work closely with our donor activists, grant recipients and cross-sector leaders to accelerate change and ensure that more women and girls have access to the programs and resources they need. Mobilize our communities At every turn, Women’s Funding Alliance shines a light on key issues and creates connections – among women and men, organizations and companies, advocates, and decisions-makers – to strengthen community and spur action. 3 A Snapshot of the Issues While we have made progress, significant work remains to increase leadership and economic opportunity for women and girls in Washington State. Leadership Just 32% of the Washington State Legislature is female. Women occupy just 12% of public company board seats in Washington State. For girls, leadership aspirations peak at age eight and just one in five believes she has the qualities required to become a good leader. Economic Opportunity Among full-time workers in Washington State, women still earn an average of just 78 cents for every dollar men earn. The Washington economy would have produced $11.2 billion more in 2013 if women had received equal pay, representing 2.7% of GDP. Among the largest racial and ethnic groups, Native American women have the highest poverty rates at 27.1% followed by Hispanic women at 26.4%. 39% of single moms and those with young children have incomes below the poverty level. In a new ranking of Best States for Working Moms, Washington State falls low on the list at #33. 4 Our Work in Action Here are three examples of how Women’s Funding Alliance is creating change for women and girls: New data to influence resources and decisions: Using our new research report, The Status of Women in Washington: Forging Pathways to Leadership and Economic Opportunity, we are making the case for women and girls in forums across the state this year. This data, paired with the stories of real women and girls, will engage new leaders and partners in creating change. More women prepared for political leadership: Working together with our grant recipient, Washington State University, we are bringing the proven NEW Leadership™ program to college women. Through this partnership, young women will be prepared for leadership roles in their communities and in politics. A decreasing wage gap in the Puget Sound region: We are taking on the local wage gap in partnership with the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. Our wage gap initiative is modeled after an effective, employer-based effort in Boston. Employers who sign onto this initiative actively implement interventions to strengthen negotiations, hiring, performance & evaluation, workplace flexibility, and wage transparency. 5 Our Invitation: Join the Movement The call to action is urgent and inspiring. When women and girls have equal opportunity and the resources they need, we are all better off. Families, communities and economies are stronger. Right here, tonight, we have the opportunity to improve lives and spark lasting change. Together with you, Women’s Funding Alliance will effectively make the case for women and girls, drive critical resources to smart solutions and mobilize our community. With your support tonight: More women and girls will speak up and lead in classrooms, board rooms and throughout our community Women will be able to better provide for themselves and their families Girls will be confident, making healthy choices and on the path to thriving Please join us. $10,000 6 $5,000 $2,500 $1,000 $500 $250 $125 TONIGHT’S HOSTS & E N T E R TA I N M E N T Tonight’s Hosts Fred Northup, Jr. Fred Northup, Jr. is one of the Pacific Northwest’s busiest entertainers: as a charity auctioneer, emcee, comedy improviser, and musician.
