Santa Ana Valley of the Scottish Rite Scottish Rite News Volume 34 Issue 9 Newsletter Date September 2012 Personal Representative’s Message Greetings to all, I hope this message finds you in good spirits. I wish to thank you for the reception you gave to me as Grand Pursuivant of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of California and as Grand Master of the Most Illustrious Grand Council of Cryptic Masons of California. The food and fellowships was wonderful. Our special events for September are: - Feast of Tishri to be held on the traditional date of September 15 th at the El Bekal Shrine Center. Our special guest that evening will be Most Worshipful and Illustrious William F Stovall 33°, Sovereign Grand Inspector General. This will be his final visit to us as Sovereign Grand Inspector General as he will retire from that office on December 31, 2012. Please join me in welcoming our esteemed Brother that evening. - Super Breakfast to be held Sunday morning the 16 th at the DeMolay Center. The hours are from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Come on out and visit with your friends and maybe even make new ones while supporting the operating cost of the Valley. My Brothers and Friends, September is a special month in the history of our great nation. Each of the original thirteen states in the United States was invited to ratify the Constitution created in Philadelphia in 1787. The Constitution specified that nine ratifications would be sufficient to consider the Constitution accepted. Some states ratified quickly, others had to hold several conventions to accept the Constitution - though all eventually did. You might be surprised to learn that it was not unanimous! September 17, 1787: The Constitutional Convention adjourns. September 28, 1787: The Congress agrees to send the Constitution to the states for debate and ratification. December 7, 1787: Delaware ratifies. Vote: 30 for, 0 against. December 12, 1787: Pennsylvania ratifies. Vote: 46 for, 23 against. December 18, 1787: New Jersey ratifies. Vote: 38 for, 0 against. —-Continued on page 4—- Be sure to visit our new Scottish Rite web site at OCSCOTTISHRITE.ORG! Let us not forget that date and pledge ourselves to hold this wonderful county of ours up as an example unto the world. An example that says “We may bend but we will not break at the hands of those who wish us ill will”. Get involved, my Brother, you can make a difference. Ray Godeke "You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation.. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it." Page 6 Volume 34 Issue 6 Scottish Rite Golf Tournament We all know that the Language Center is our Scottish Rite Philanthropy. I'm sure you also know that the major source of funding for the Center is our Annual Scottish Rite Golf Tournament, which is coming up again this October! The Tournament will be held October 29, 2012, at Aliso Viejo Golf Club, and will be the same format as in previous years - a shotgun start, scramble (best ball) tournament. As always, there will be plenty of prizes, and many opportunities to win great gifts! We do hear, each year, folks saying that can't help because they don't golf - but nothing could be further from the truth! Yes, you can help without golfing - come on down and help, volunteer, participate, meet the many guests. We have a great dinner afterward, and you can participate by attending that, and participating in the silent auction and opportunity drawing! So yes, you can be an important part of supporting our Center! Also, do you own a business? Have a friend who does? Do you do business with a business? Well, get them on board, to help support this important charity! We'll have a number of participating restaurants, and we can always use more donors... so do your part and recruit supporters and sponsors, as well as golfers! Here's the details: October 29, 2012 Aliso Viejo Golf Club 10:00 am check in $185 per golfer (that includes green fees, lunch, dinner, range balls and cart, as well as tee gifts and more food & beverage on the course!) Dinner will follow - and if you have questions, ask any Center board member - Pete Jantz, Bob MacNamara, Dave Price, or Ralph Shelton. You can always email Ralph at [email protected] We look forward to another fabulous tournament, and another great year for our Center! Ralph Shelton, 32°KCCH President Scottish Rite News Page 7 Language Center The “Barry the Pig” project for the Language Center headed by Dave Price, 32° KCCH is becoming very successful. So far, over a thousand dollars have been collected and deposited. It really is a simple concept. Everyone has change that they need to put somewhere and Berry the Pig is a perfect place. Our Language Center has Barry placed in many areas and the kids and their parents donate generously. The kids especially like to put coins in Barry to see his tail wag. Two of our kids wanted to contribute to the Language Center as a thank you for their training and went home and emptied their personal piggy banks into Barry the Pig. They are Logan and Miguel and are pictured below. These two kids really gave all they had. We hope this will be an example to our Valley members to give some as the work the Language Center provides is exceptional. Page 9 Scottish Rite News Operation: The Rite Backpacks My Brothers, Masonry’s cornerstone is charity and in the Scottish Rite, this charitable energy is focused in the support of our Language Center. It is our privilege to provide for this organization and we are always looking for new ways to help our children. We want to show how much we truly care about their development, their quality of life, but most importantly, about their happiness. This brings me to our first event this year, Operation “The Rite Backpacks”. Thanks to generous contributions from brothers in our Valley, we have secured funding to provide each child attending the Language Center with a nice backpack, full of the “right” grade-appropriate education supplies, in order to achieve academically. To make this event fun, brothers and ladies contributing to this operation will be invited to an evening event, where together, we will work on getting all these backpacks assembled for formal presentation to the Language Center. All backpacks will be distributed to children receiving assistance from organization. Many of the supplies needed for success will be found inside each of these backpacks, all except for a trowel, as that implement is for us to keep, so we can continue to spread our brotherly love and affection towards this great center. If you missed out on this opportunity to give, hang on tight, future “Rite” events will be announced soon. Yes, the “Rite” is here to stay! The Language Center is our Philanthropy, our duty, but most importantly, our unspoken obligation.
