TEMPORARY TEACHER OF FRENCH - STRABANE ACADEMY Maternity Leave from 28 August 2016 to 28th February 2017 (with possible extension) to cover a maternitty leave Strabane Academy is a controlled, coeducational grammar school whose pupils are drawn from an extensive catchment area and from both controlled and maintained primary schools. The school operates a junior/senior school model with the junior school on the Derry Road and the Senior school on the Liskey Road. PROFESSIONAL DUTIES Specific to this post the normal duties and responsibilities will be:1. Teaching and Assessment 1.1 To teach French to KS3, GCSE and A’ level 1.2 To contribute to the teaching of other subjects within his or her professional competence, including participation in remedial support programmes. 1.3 To assess pupil progress and attainment as required 1.4 To contribute to the school’s pastoral system by being a Form Teacher and to undertake other duties as defined in the Teachers’ Terms and conditions of Employment Order [1987] 2. Extra-Curricular To make a significant contribution to at least one extra-curricular activity. 3. Supervisory Duties To participate as required in the supervision rota for pupils in the morning, at mid-morning break and after school. 4. Staff Development To participate fully in relevant programmes of staff development. PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential Criteria The following criteria would be essential for a candidate to have in order to fully satisfy the requirements of the post. Applicants must, at the closing date for applications: be qualified teachers as recognised by the Department of Education to teach in grantaided schools; hold a degree or equivalent qualification in which there is a substantive component of French; demonstrate competency in the use of ICT and its application to the teaching of French. Demonstrate by qualification/experience a commitment to extra-curricular provision, together with the ability to lead, develop or contribute to at least one extra-curricular activity KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, PERSONAL QUALITIES Current and anticipated educational developments in subject areas School Improvement and effectiveness Current teaching strategies and curriculum development in the subjects Communication skills Classroom management Interpersonal skills IT skills Flexibility to teach other subject(s) Importance of learning Commitment to child and subject development Demonstrate good teamwork The panel reserves the right to enhance these criteria in order to effect a manageable shortlist.
