Additional information may be obtained at the EQAO web site: www.eqao.com. By the time I die, I’d think “Nah. I’m good. I don’t wanna go through X amount of years again. I got a good high score, but I don’t wanna play again. Too long.” Because if I remembered everything, I’d be thinking “Ugh. Why is there no speed up cheat code?” or “When’s the final boss?” And plus I’d have a moment like “Is life just a re-cycle of meaningless play-throughs? Why not just shut off the console?” Playing the game hundreds of times, makes the game lose it’s taste. And believe me I know. I’ve played the same 6 games over, and over, and over for the past 3 years. It just becomes a task. You’re sucked into the believe you have to make it perfect. Which can’t be anyone’s life/play style. No human can complete a task flawlessly. And if one does, they are not human. At the end it should be the “You did it!” moment. Not “Play again?” GRADE 6 DUCT TAPE FASHION SHOW Mrs. Barr’s Grade 1 and 2 class (above) know how to make a difference! Grade 8 Students work on their Dance moves for a French Project! Class Placement Requests for 2016-17 As we begin to put together a school organization for the coming school year, we always take into consideration any parental input on particular needs that their children may have. Our staff puts a great deal of time and thought into the class building process. Instructional needs, social/emotional needs as well as other factors, are all carefully considered. If you wish to share specific needs that best support your child’s learning, please put them in writing addressed to the principal and email or drop them off at the school office prior to May 13. This is NOT an opportunity to request specific teachers, as teaching assignments are not finalized at this time. Parking at the school As you know, parking is a precious commodity at our school! Please do not park in the bus turning area, handicap parking section or no parking areas of the Annex parking lot, especially in the morning. We have children arriving by special vehicles and they need this area to safely exit their vehicles. As this is also where our walking Kindergarten children go to enter their yard, we ask that you park along Gould or Cowley Street and use our very capable Crossing guards! For continuity of program: If you could synchronize picking up your child with the nutrition breaks and dismissal times, it would lessen interruptions to your child’s learning and classroom. Breaks are 11:25-12:05 and 1:35-2:15 with dismissal at 3:45. STUDENT DRESS CODE With the weather turning warmer, please help us promote a positive community culture. Remember our dress code: Students are expected to wear acceptable school attire. To travel from room to room, and to be prepared for fire drills or emergency evacuation, each child should wear a pair of indoor shoes (please label them and do not purchase black soled shoes that leave marks). T-shirts bearing coarse language, halter-tops, and spaghetti straps or other clothing of questionable taste for school wear (including advertising or items that explicitly or implicitly promote the use of and/or consumption of alcohol or drugs is prohibited). Shorts and skirts must be at least as long as the length of your arm to the end of your fingertips. As further guidelines, “outerwear should cover underwear” and “the bottom of a top should meet the top of a bottom”. In cases of non-compliance, the school staff will insist that the student change into, or cover up with, other clothing. Mrs. Broome’s Grade 4 students were doing individual pulleys and gears projects. Here are some examples of the projects. Students had to design a device to solve one of these scenarios: moving an elephant off the road, moving a bucket of water from the well to the hut, moving a child with a broken leg up to their treehouse and making a device to mix food without using electricity. At left, Mrs. Hamilton proudly poses with a few of the students who have completed their projects. ~ written by Jaime, Wade, Sophie, Oliver & Riley Grade 7-8 Flash Fiction - Writing a story in 8 minutes! GAME OVER - TRY AGAIN By Mackenzie Grade 7-8 Flash Fiction - Writing a story in 8 minutes! GAME OVER - TRY AGAIN By Penny I was on my deathbed, suddenly a screen appears “Game over! Try again or End game”. I ran up to the glass, or more, hobbled. I had served as the human Super Mario at the local Bible Kids camp, and now I was here; in a hospital bed with bashed head and broken kneecaps. My life had been ok. I had seen the ups, the downs, the good days and the bad, but earlier that bright sunny day is where my asthma caught up with me. The sun was sizzling hot and I was running like the wind… when BAM! A human Gomba hit me and I was down and unconscious, but a chance to try again to learn more, to see more! Sure I would miss my family but I would have another chance! Bible camp had taught me something… I pressed end… that heaven is a better place! With that I died in peace. In your dying moments you see a “game over” screen with 2 options, “game over” or “try again” which one would you choose? I'm suffering from a disease, an incurable disease, as I lay here on my deathbed staring at the ceiling thinking, I wonder what would my life would look like in 70 years, if only I could live that long , I'm gonna miss my family so much, a tear streams down my face. I'm only 13 years old, why is this happening to me? Out of nowhere a screen is peering down in my eyes. It says, “game over” or “try again?” Right away I understand what it means, I've been given a second chance, I can live all over again, I can live the rest of my life as I should! Right away I go to press the “try again” button, but I stop myself… I think, maybe this is my time to die, why would I want to continue life In a world that's just getting worse? But then I think of my family, friends and pets, I love them so much. I press try again. No more than 30 seconds later I'm reborn. WHAT? I'm starting to have flashbacks. WHERE AM I? I look up, staring at 2 strangers. Who are they? I thought this meant I could come back to my family, but this isn't my family. I made a mistake I want to go back, only if there was an undo button. CDPS FUN FAIR 2016 The CDPS Fun Fair will take place on Thursday, June 9th, 2016. Initial preparations have begun and we would like to take this opportunity to update you on what’s happening this year. Raffle Tickets: Our raffle is by far, the biggest attraction at the Fun Fair. In recent years we have been able to offer a large range of top quality prizes, through very generous donations. We have already received many excellent donations of prizes for the raffle, but there is always room for more! If you are able to donate a prize, please contact Mrs. Philippa Bell at the school office, with details by Thursday, May 5th. Gift cards for music, food services and books are a great idea and always well received. Please consider supporting our raffle! Table Rental: Last year, community groups and small businesses advertised themselves by renting tables at the fun fair. This year, we are offering table rental once again. The fun fair is visited each year by hundreds of people, both from Cobden and also neighbouring communities. This provides excellent exposure for those of you in the community, who may want to share what you do, what you sell or the services you provide. The cost of table rental is $20.00, plus a donation of an item for our prize table. If you would like more details, please contact Mrs. Benson at school. Adult Volunteers Needed: We rely on volunteer support to make sure the fun fair runs smoothly and successfully each year. Our volunteer sign-up form will be sent home in early May, but currently, we do need adult helpers for the following jobs at the fun fair. Please consider helping out. The Big Dig: An adult is needed to supervise this extremely popular activity on the evening of the fun fair. The Talent Show: Mrs. Oakes and Ms. Girard require one more adult volunteer to help them at the talent show. The Bake Table: An adult helper is needed to help Mrs. McCallion set up and work at our very popular bake table during fun fair evening. Fun Fair Set-Up: Mrs. Benson needs help on the day of the fun fair to set up the event and all of the games and activities. If you are able to help out, volunteer or wish to enquire about any aspect of the 2016 CDPS Fun Fair, please contact Mrs. Benson at school, at 613-646-2271 or directly by e-mail at [email protected]. The next committee meeting is on Monday, May 9th at 7pm. All new committee members are very welcome and on behalf of the students in CDPS, we are grateful for your support Also, if you have a high school aged child, who requires volunteer hours or just wants to help out, please contact Mrs. Benson. We have many jobs available! Once again, we are very grateful to everyone, who has offered their help throughout the preparations and for the evening of the fun fair. We look forward to seeing everyone on CDPS Fun Fair evening. GRADE 7 & 8 C.D.P.S. CONCERT BAND WHITEWATER BROMLEY COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE Grade 7-8 Flash Fiction - Writing a story in 8 minutes! GAME OVER - TRY AGAIN Chef-In-Training Cooking Class By Megan There was a constant radiating pain spreading through Sam's gut. That wasn't what he was focused on. His mind was on the betrayal. Greg had left four hours ago, Sam was the one who found him. Crumpled on the ground, blood pooling around. It was Suzanne, and she thought it was a secret that she murdered him. Sam knew that Greg left her heartbroken. Suzanne smiled as she listened to Danny hitting the door from inside the closet. He has the key, but it's of no use. He's locked inside with no lock. Sam passed and Suzanne opened the closet.
