`Who were the greatest builders in history?`

Blue Class Newsletter
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to an action packed Term 1!
‘Who were the greatest builders in history?’
Topic
Throughout this History topic, the children will be learning about the lives of the
Ancient Egyptians and the people of the Bronze Age; looking at artefacts,
creating their own jewellery, investigating mummification and they will be going on
an exciting visit to Dover Museum to enrich the topic.
Literacy
This term, the children will be exploring the themes of friendship and feelings
through reading a story set at the seaside. We will be looking at stories with
similar settings including ‘Buried Alive’ by Jacqueline Wilson and ‘The Shrimp’ by
Emily Smith. In writing, the children will build ideas about setting and character
and then write descriptions of two different beach settings.
Numeracy
In Numeracy this term, the children will continue working on their number skills.
They will be developing their understanding of place value, counting, comparing
numbers before moving on to focus on the four operations: addition, subtraction,
division and multiplication.
Science
In Science your child will be learning all about rocks and soil. We will be
comparing a variety of rocks and soils and sorting them based on their
properties. We will then move on to looking at how rocks and soil can change and
develop over a period of time, looking for examples of this in or local area.
PE
The children will be focusing on invasion games this term; working on
key throwing and catching skills, and teamwork. We will be using dance
to explore life in Ancient Egypt.
Our PE lessons will be on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
Please ensure that your child’s PE kit is always in school and they have
the appropriate kit for both indoor and outdoor PE.
Homework and Reading
The children will be set weekly Numeracy and Topic homework every Wednesday
to be returned on Mondays. We expect each child to take responsibility for doing
their own homework and encourage all parents to help your child to become
independent in doing so.
We are expecting your child to read every night at home.
It is the single most important thing you can do give them the
best start. Every time they read at home counts!
We are sure that this is going to be a really exciting and interesting term for the
children. As always, please come and speak to us if you have any concerns about
your child.
Miss Ford and Mrs Cunningham.
