The New Classrooms in Year 4 and 5 Geoffrey Field Junior School have had new buildings built in their school. One classroom has been built in Red Area and one class room has been built in Blue Area. They were built in September and were finished in January so Mrs Raven’s class and Mrs Pritchard’s class had to move in after the Christmas holidays. Mrs Raven’s class are lucky enough to be working in the new classroom in year 5. They’re having an extremely good time in it. They are great at keeping it nice and tidy. But unfortunately the smart board isn’t smart at all because when Mrs Raven doesn't touch it, it comes on by itself and that’s why year 5 think there is a ghost in it! Three good things about the new classrooms: 1. The chairs are a lot comfier than the ones in the old classrooms. 2. The new classrooms are a lot larger and have more room to learn. 3. Year 5’s room is painted in baby blue, which makes Mrs Raven and her class smile every morning. Romans Fun Facts Year 4 have been studying the Roman empire and these are some of the things they’ve found out! Julius Caesar Julius Caesar was a Roman Emperor for many, many years. He was born in July 100BC and he died in 44BC, Rome, Italy. Did You Know? Did you know that Romulus and Remus were fighting to name the main city of Italy? Romulus killed Remus so it is now known as Rome. Romans had lots of Gods and Goddesses. When Romulus died he became one of the gods. If you wanted to be a Roman solider you had to be in the Auxiliaries because you did not live in Rome, Italy. SATs What are SATs? The SATs are tests that all primary school children in year 6 have to do. These tests take place in May and they last for one week. The SATs include lots of different tests you have to do: grammar, numeracy, arithmetic. The Year Sixes have to do this test for the government so they can find out the average score and how good our school is compared to others. Things we are doing to prepare you for your SATs As you may have noticed, we are doing booster classes for year sixes. These booster classes are helping you get ready for the tests in May by helping you revise tricky topics. We have also launched compulsory maths homework for yellow area; they have it on Friday and then they have to bring it back on a Wednesday. Here are some great test tips: get a good nights’ sleep; use websites like Mathletics, BBC bitesize KS2 and you should get some fresh air everyday. How are Year Sixes feeling? Amina told us, “’I'm feeling nervous and excited! I'm nervous because I might fail and excited because I might pass!’” Simon says, “This year the SATs are harder but the teachers have prepared us for any situation.” Daniel says, “I'm excited because if I concentrate I will pass.” An Interview with Mrs Jarvis Why did you decide to join our school? Because I’m good at working in an office and I like to see all the children. Also, it is very close to my house so it is very convenient. Do you have any special talents? I think that I can sing but Mrs Bryan disagrees with me! I have a good sense of humour and I can laugh a lot. What’s the best thing about working in a school? Meeting all of the children and their families. What is the most embarrassing thing to happen to you? I was at the supermarket. I got my trolley, put everything in... Everything was going well until I got to the checkout—I had forgotten my purse! What did you join the school? In 2008, I think. Who is your favourite teacher? Miss Yearsley because she is always keeping me informed about what happens in her area and the good and bad things the children have done!
