Labour told blatant lies in relation to paddling pool.

Labour Council to close
Ponty Park Paddling Pool
Pre-election
election promises count for
absolutely nothing.
In April, just before the Council elections, then
Council leader Russell Roberts made an
announcement on behalf of his party - “Paddling
pool to stay in Labour’s ambitious plans for Lido.”
It stated “following
following the strong public feedback
which has been received, the paddling pool
facility will remain in addition to our ambitious
plans for a new Lido facility,”
It went on “Let
Let me make it categorically clear,
the current paddling pool will remain a part of
our park, whatever success we achieve with our
funding bids for a new Lido facility.”
Labour lied.
Three months later, having duped the electorate yet
again, they have passed plans and obtained the first lot
of funding for a new Lido – with the existing paddling
pool to be ripped out and grassed over.
Welsh Liberal Democrat councillor Mike Powell has
long opposed any suggestion of removing the paddling
pool.
“The Council have said they will allow children under
12 to use the new splash pool in the Lido,
accompanied by one adult. Where does that leave a
family of Mam, Dad and one child? What if Gran and
Granddad want to come along? Not such a cheap day
out then is it?
The rest of the Councillors representing Pontypridd are
obviously happy to see a much used free facility go to
be replaced with one where presumably there will be a
time limit on visits.”
If like us you believe the plans should include
keeping the paddling pool as a free facility to keep
on entertaining the thousands of children that use
it every year then let the Council know. See
contact details overleaf, tell Pontypridd Councillors
what you think.
Pontypridd MP Owen Smith is holding a
public meeting on Tuesday July 31st to
discuss the town
n centre regeneration. The
meeting will be held at the YMCA at
5.30pm.
Why not go along and ask his opinion on
what his
is colleagues are doing with the park
and the town in general.
WHAT ARE THEY DOING TO OUR TOWN?
Ask your Pontypridd Councillors why they voted to approve the
plans to remove the ever popular paddling pool.
The Labour party lied to over this before the election. What else did they lie about? They
bragged about their ambitious plans for Pontypridd, but the precinct development is on hold,
the paddling pool is to close, and their Townscape Enhancement Programme has failed to
bring new business to the area.
Ponty Town.

Owen Smith MP in his Pontypridd Observer column in June said he was “delighted to see Labour
council colleagues ruling out any closure of the small pool."
Is he so delighted now? Ask him at the public meeting Tuesday 31st July, 5.30 at the YMCA
Mick Antoniw AM has said absolutely nothing at all about it. But then living in Newport he probably
doesn’t know a great deal about the pool or its history.

Thousands of people come to Ynysangharad Park every year. Many of them families who come
to enjoy a relaxing day lazing around whilst children make the most of the paddling pool.
The capacity of the children’s pools in the Lido will be much less, and time in there will be
limited. It will not be the completely free facility that is currently enjoyed by local residents and
visitors alike.
The Council have refused to listen to all those people who say they want the paddling pool to
stay, that it is as much a part of Ponty’s heritage as the Lido.
