R. Moreland is vice chairman. In FY 2013, a record 31.6 million passengers traveled on Amtrak on more than 300
daily trains – at speeds up to 150 mph (241 kph) – that connect 46 states, the District of Columbia and three

About Operation Lifesaver
Trains - passenger, light-rail, and freight - offer among the most efficient transportation available to move us into the
21st century. U.S. Department of Transportation projections calling for substantial increases in rail transport over
the next three decades mean that we, along with rail safety partners in the rail industry and at the federal, state and
local levels, must work together to meet the safety challenges that accompany a rail renaissance. As advanced
technology helps build quieter, faster trains, our responsibility to teach people how to be safe around them increases,
too. At Operation Lifesaver, we're committed to raising awareness and improving public safety on and around
highway-rail grade crossings and tracks through public awareness and education; we're committed to saving lives.
