Dear community, AsSalaamAlikum
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Hujjat-ul-Islam Syed Farhat Abbas as
the Resident A’lim of Anjuman-e-Haideri (Islamic Education Center-Houston). Many of
you know Syed from his days as a member of Houston community and as a scholar
delivering lectures around the world on a wide range of topics.
Moulana Syed Farhat Abbas is a computer engineering graduate from Cal State
University; before he began his quest for religious studies, he spent many years in the US
working in corporate environment gaining experience in interaction with the community
of both Muslims and non-Muslims. About 9 years ago he was guided by Allah(swt)
towards a better path and went to Qom for Howza studies pursuing a degree in Islamic
studies. Syed’s areas of studies have included years of Arabic syntax and grammar,
logic (mantiq), Islamic theology (kalaam), Islamic rulings and law (ahkaam), Islamic
history, jurisprudence (fiqh), principles of jurisprudence (usul al-fiqh), Islamic philosophy
and various other disciplines.
We are thankful to Moulana Shamshad Haider who has been providing great service to
the community after departure of Moulana Badiei who at Allah(swt) will, has moved on
to a different task.
We welcome Syed and his family to Houston and look forward to his leadership.
