Storytime is held on Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings.
On Thursday, October 6th, the library in partnership with Pearson Foundation, hosted a Read for
the Record event at the library. The book chosen for this year was “Llama Llama Red
Pajama” written by Anna Dewdney. Mayor Tom Kuntz was at the library to proclaim October
6, 2011 as Read for the Record Day in Owatonna. The highlight of the evening was the
actual live llama on the library lawn dressed in red pajamas. Children could pet and have
their picture taken with the llama. The event drew 300 people to the library including 153
children that became part of the record.
On Thursday, October 27th was the Pumpkin Party. The Pumpkin Party is part of the
storytime, Family Fun Night, done each month with ECFE (Early Childhood Family
Education). Darla and Patty read Halloween stories and sang songs; ECFE provided crafts, craft
dough and a sensory table. Each child was given a small pumpkin to wash at the “Pumpkin
Washing Station”. A total of 118 people attended this evening storytime.
Darla visited Migrant Head Start twice during the month. On October 5th, she read stories
to 37 children and teachers and on October 19th, she read to a group of 32.
On Monday evening, October 17th, Darla visited with 35 daycare providers from Steele
County Childcare Association from 7-9 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church. She showed and read
new books, provided handouts of fingerplays and spoke about the library.
On Wednesday, October26th, Washington First Grade visited the library. The first group, two
classes, 52 children and teachers came at 9:00 AM. A second group, one class, 26 children
and teachers arrived at 10:00 AM. The groups were given a tour, heard stories and checked
out books.
