Activity Name: Synonym Match
Standard: Production and Distribution of Writing

Directions
1. Work alone or with 2 to 4 partners. Choose your Activity Board
and matching cards.
2. Place the cards in a pile with the words facing down.
3. Choose who will go first.
4. The first person takes a card from the pile. Read the word aloud
and then decide if the word is a synonym for Walk, Talk, Eat, Look,
or a Color synonym. Place the word card under the correct
column.
5. Continue taking turns until all matches have been found.
6. When all the word cards have been placed on the Activity Mat
have all the partners choose one or two column(s) of words to
arrange in alphabetical order.
7. If all the answers are correct, you will see a winter picture appear.
If the picture is distorted, remove those cards and work as a team
to place the word cards in the correct column or correctly in
alphabetical order.
Challenge: Make a list of synonyms for run, go, move, and sound. Use
at least 5 of the synonyms in Synonym Match in your next writing.
