Fellow Toastmasters;
Greetings.
As many of you know Jamel McMullin, will be representing our district 65 at the Toastmasters
International Convention in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in the International Speech Contest.
The winner of this contest will be accorded the coveted title of “World Champion of Public
Speaking” [WCPS]. The last time a Toastmaster won from district 65 was in 1975 (see below
the details). Ryan Avery in 2012 became the youngest WCPS at age 25. It is absolutely
possible that Jamel may very well break that record once again, and become the youngest
winner in championship’s 76 year history! What an honor it will be for District 65.
Toastmasters International will pay for Jamel’s airfare and his registration fee at the convention
will be discounted. Jamel still has to pay himself for hotel room expenses, balance of convention
registration, meals cost and other incidental expenses. It is estimated that this will be around
$900 to $1,000 out-of-pocket cost.
Jamel is a college student at University of Buffalo and naturally has limited financial resources.
It would be wonderful if individual Toastmasters make voluntary donations to help him cover
some of the costs. No amount is small so please feel free to donate any amount you like.
If you like to give Jamel a donation check it will be appreciated. The check can be made
payable to Jamel McMullin Jr. Please mail your check directly to Jamel at the following address.
Jamel McMullin Jr.
307, Glenwood Avenue
Syracuse, NY 13207
Remember, this is strictly on voluntary basis and no Toastmaster is under any obligation to give
a donation.
Thank you for your support.
Best regards,
Sam
