Bears.’

Our topic this half term will be ‘Great Explorers’.
History

In our ‘Great Explorers Unit’, we will learn about Ibn Battuta, Christopher Columbus, Neil
Armstrong and Robert Falcon Scott.
We will discuss the criteria for what makes a person significant.
We will consolidate our understanding of chronology by comparing the historical periods in
which these great explorers lived.

We will learn about “animals”. We will be
comparing a plant to an animal and be able to
explain similarities and differences.
We will learn about life cycles for animals
including a frog, a chicken and a butterfly.
We will compare ourselves as humans with
different animals and be able to explain
similarities and differences.

We will use different materials and
techniques to make our own portraits.
We will explore the work of various artists
including, Pablo and Henri Matisse, and
create artwork inspired by them.

Physical Education
• This half of term focuses on
learning and developing skills in
different sports.
• We will be doing this through bench
football and bench netball, both very
popular games!
• It also develops team work and
about how to deal with winning or
losing.

This half of term we are following the
government scheme SEAL and the topic ‘It’s
good to be me’, where the children think
about what is good about themselves
and their friends and what they could work
towards improving.
