Principal’s Message Paonia Parents Organization News PES recognizes the impact that regular school attendance has on student achievement, and we are committed in our efforts to promote student attendance. Typically, every day that a student misses school they get more than two days behind their peers because they must make up missed learning and catch up with new learning at the same time. Here are some tips on how to promote your child’s attendance at school: • Let your child know that you think school is important. • Take an interest in your child’s schoolwork. • Provide regular times and a quiet, clean area for doing homework. • Provide a regular bedtime schedule. • Don’t expect older children to stay home and act as babysitters for younger children. • Set good examples and enforce rules. • Post the school calendar and notes on the refrigerator, or another prominent location. • Balance extracurricular activities. • If your child starts to miss school, speak to the school and let your child know that he/she must attend. Please look for your Yankee Candle fundraising information in this week’s Tuesday Express. We are excited to try this fundraiser in order to raise funds for a makeover of our school gym. Students need to return their order forms by March 22nd, so that we can have all orders ready to go by Mother’s Day. Thank you for helping support PES! We are also continuing our preparations for the Spring Talent Show. We will be hosting the Talent Show on Friday, April 22nd at PHS for 3rd-6th grade performers. There will be K-2nd grade artwork on display at the high school as well. If you’re interested in helping organize the talent show, please contact Mr. Cox. More info is in this week’s Tuesday Express. Our next PPO meeting will be on Monday, March 21st at 6:00 pm at LOUIE’S PIZZA if their construction is complete and they reopen. We will not have child care at this meeting. Bring a friend!
