Constitutional Amendments
Congress has the power to propose
amendments to the Constitution by a
2/3rds vote in each house.
Congress may call a national
convention of delegates from each of
the States to propose an amendment.
(only if requested by 2/3rds of the
State legislatures)

Electoral Duties
The House may be called on to elect a
President if no candidate receives a
majority of electoral votes.
Under the same circumstances, the
Senate may be called on to elect a Vice
President.

Impeachment
The House has sole power to vote
articles of impeachment (removal) of
the President, V.P., and all other civil
officers of the U.S.
The Senate has the sole power to
conduct a trial of those impeached by
the House.

Two Presidents have been impeached by the
House.
Andrew Johnson
Bill Clinton
The Senate voted to acquit both men-that is the Senate found
them not guilty.

The Senate must confirm all major
appointments made by the President.
The Senate must confirm all treaties made
by the President
