Michael Miller Fabrics, LLC is not responsible for the accuracy of any kits packaged to accompany this pattern. Please direct any inquiries to the kit maker. Yardage requirements for this pattern may allow for excess yardage to accommodate specific placement of motifs or to allow for any fussy-cutting to achieve the finished quilt design. While every attempt has been made to give accurate measurements, yardage requirements, and construction directions; this does not allow personal variations in measuring, cutting, and or sewing. The enclosed directions were used in the construction of the original quilt. Directions 1. For one fish block – place one DC5442 Lagoon 2 ½” square right sides together in the upper left corner of the one DC5014 Amethyst 4 ½” x 6 ½” square. Stripes should run vertically. Draw a diagonal line across the corner of the corner of the 2 ½” square. Stitch. Trim away the excess. Press the small square up. Repeat for each corner. Make (4) DC5014 Amethyst and (4) DC5014 Petal. Set aside. 2. For the tail, repeat the process using DC5377 Rainbow 2 ½” squares and DC5442 Lagoon 2 ½” x 4 ½” piece to make one tail fin unit. Make (8) total. Sew one tail fin unit to one end of each 4 ½” x 6 ½” fish body unit as shown. Make (8) fish total. 3. For the dimensional fin, trace the fin pattern on (8) DC5377 Rainbow 2” x 2 ½” pieces. Place right sides together with a matching DC5377 Rainbow 2” x 2 ½” piece. Stitch along the curved edge. Trim to a scant ¼”. Clip all curves. Turn to the right side and press. Topstitch to the fish unit with the curved edge of the fin pointing to the front of the fish. Fold fin towards the tail. Topstitch again to finish. 4. Sew one DC5442 Lagoon 1 ½” x 8 ½” to the top and bottom of each fish block. Sew one DC5442 Lagoon 1 ½” x 6 ½” to each end. 5. Sew (4) fish blocks together to make one row. Make (2) rows total. Set aside. (Fish can all face the same direction, be placed nose to nose, or all one color in one row. Maker’s decision.) 6. For the starfish blocks = following manufacturer’s directions, trace (8) starfish onto the paper side of the fusible web using the provided pattern. Iron fusible onto the wrong side of DC5014 Sunshine. Cut out. Remove paper backing. Position one starfish on one DC3904 5 ½” square. Fuse into place. Machine appliqué all raw edges to finish. Make (8) starfish blocks. 7. Sew together (4) starfish blocks and (4) DC5379 5 ½” squares in an alternating pattern to make a 40 ½” strip. Make (2) strips total. 8. To assemble the quilt. Start at the top and work to the bottom in the following order: DC5377 Caribbean 2 ½” x 40 ½” strip, DC5446 6” x 40 ½”, DC5377 Caribbean 1 ½” x 40 ½” piece, 6 ½” fish block row, DC5377 Caribbean 1 ½” x 40 ½” piece, Starfish row, DC5377 Caribbean 1 ½” x 40 ½” piece, DC5446 6” strip, DC5377 Caribbean 1 ½” x 40 ½” piece, Starfish row, DC5377 Caribbean 1 ½” x 40 ½” piece, 6” fish row, DC5377 Caribbean 1 ½” x 40 ½” strip, DC5446 6” strip, DC5377 Caribbean 2 ½” x 40 ½” piece. 9. Layer backing, batting, and quilt top. Baste. 10. Quilt as desired, being careful not to catch the dimensional fish fins. 11. Bind each side using DC5442 Lime 2 ½” x W.O.F. strips pieced as needed for length. Do not bind the top and bottom. 12. For the prairie point trim – fold one DC5377 Rainbow 4 ½” square in half with the stripes horizontal. Fold the corners of the folded edge diagonally to the center. All raw edges should align. Press firmly. Stitch 1/8” across the raw edges of the bottom to secure the folds. Make (20) total. 13. Arrange (10) prairie points point side down evenly spaced across the top of the quilt. Place DC5442 Lime 1 ¼” x 41 ½” right side down on top of the prairie points. Leave ½” extending at each end. Stitch in place. Fold binding to the back. Turn under raw edges at each end and across the quilt. Slip stitch binding in place. Press seam firmly so prairie pints stand up. Repeat for the bottom edge. 14. Sew one 3/8” button to each fish as an eye to complete the quilt.
