Opportunities & Announcements
Two Downtown Parking
Lots for Sale
Two of Barrie’s City-owned downtown
parking lots are officially for sale for
redevelopment. For sale signs were
posted on Monday, September 26th at
55-57 McDonald Street/61-67 Owen
Street and 60 Worsley Street (parking
lot only).
The property at 55-57 McDonald
Street/61-67 Owen Street is
approximately 0.52 acres and the
60 Worsley Street property is
approximately 0.57 acres.
Both properties are commercially zoned
allowing for mixed-use commercial
developments with higher-density
residential components specific to
the individual zoning requirements of
each property.
The offering of these downtown parking
lots provide strategic opportunities to
accelerate growth and vitality through
residential and/or employment density,
while also accelerating the vision and
goals for downtown Barrie.

Not Sure When Overnight
On-street Parking
Restrictions Take Effect?
The restrictions are effective annually
from December 1st to March 31st.
During this time* parking is not
permitted on most streets from
12:01–7:00AM (3:00–6:00AM within the
Downtown Business Improvement Area).
The Overnight Parking by-law was
amended in 2011, moving the start date
from November 1 to December 1 and
the end date from April 15 to March 31.
*Exception: Winter Maintenance Events
Outside of the above time period,
overnight on-street parking isn’t
permitted should a Winter Maintenance
Event be declared (communicated via
barrie.ca/snow, Facebook, Twitter, and
news media).
These events can be declared
when anticipated weather requires
snowplowing, sanding, salting, direct
liquid application, snow removal or
other winter maintenance operations.
Barrie’s 2017 Budget:
How would you spend it?
It’s budget time at the City of Barrie.
Once again, residents are encouraged
to join the conversation using the
online Budget Allocator Tool, which
allows users to choose how to invest
their tax dollars and leave comments
about their choices.
Feedback gathered through this
tool will help Council and City staff
understand the community’s priorities.
Results and comments will be shared
with Council as part of the 2017
Business Plan & Budget deliberations.
Subject to Council’s discussions, the
Budget will be approved at a meeting
on February 13, 2017.
This year, Mayor Lehman hit the streets
in a new video to ask residents how
they want their tax dollars spent and
talk about some of the ways the City is
improving and saving money through
thoughtful innovation.
Visit barrie.ca/budget to watch the
video, take the budget challenge and
learn more about how your tax dollars
are spent.

Beware of Door-to-Door Sales
Each year, the City receives a number
of calls from residents who have had
individuals come to their door making
false claims about water quality, or
selling water heaters, furnaces or to
check water filters. Most complaints
about door-to-door sales and rentals
are about unclear contracts or
misrepresentations by sales people.
These salespeople sometimes ask
to enter residents’ homes to view or
inspect their water systems, check water
quality or to inspect appliances.
What you should know:
•
If a City representative needs to
visit a residence or business, an
appointment will have been
mutually agreed upon in advance.
• City employees will be carrying
appropriate identification.
• City vehicles will be used for
service calls.
• If you are suspicious of any sales
person at your door, call Barrie Police
for assistance at 705-725-7025
(non-emergency) or call 911 if they
pose an immediate threat to your
well-being.
To learn more, visit Beware of Door-toDoor Sales via barrie.ca/WaterServices.
