Shenango Valley Area
The Shenango Valley area consists of six smaller communities
— Sharon, Hermitage, Farrell, Sharpsville, West Middlesex,
and Wheatland — which, combined, make up half of Mercer
County’s total population of more than 120,000.
The Shenango Valley offers a similar array of educational,
recreational, and cultural amenities on a slightly larger scale
than those in Greenville, boasting several unique attractions
including Buhl Farm in Hermitage (a public park) and Buhl
Community Recreation Center in Sharon, which features an
indoor pool and a variety of athletic programs.
A branch campus of Penn State University, which offers the
resources of a large university close to home, is located in
Sharon. Shenango Valley public school districts include
Hermitage, Sharpsville, Sharon, Farrell, and West Middlesex.
Kennedy Catholic High School, a private Catholic high school,
is also located in the Shenango Valley.
Unique tourist attractions in Sharon include the “world’s largest”
shoe store, candy store, and off-price fashion store, as well as
the luxurious Buhl Mansion Guest House and Spa. Located
just a few miles away in Clark, Pa., is Tara - A Country Inn.

Proximity to Metropolitan Areas
Although Greenville and the Shenango Valley are far enough
away from large cities to avoid the problems associated with
metropolitan areas, interstate highways provide easy access
to Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Youngstown, and Erie for abundant
shopping, cultural, or recreational activities.
The Shenango Valley area is less than one hour away from the
Pittsburgh International Airport and just over one hour from
downtown Pittsburgh. Greenville is just over an hour away
from Lake Erie and 90 minutes from Cleveland.
