Resident Spotlight - Dr. Sarah Stevens
Dr. Sarah Stevens celebrated her 100th birthday on July 25th
with family and friends who honored her with gifts, cards, Jim’s
spaghetti and chocolate cake! She even received birthday
greetings from Governor Tomblin and President Obama.
Sarah was born in Dallas, Texas on July 25, 1911. She received
her undergraduate degree from SMU and went on to Baylor
Medical School. She completed her Residency in Cincinnati
where she met her husband who was also a doctor. In 1941, they
married and moved to Huntington, WV where they set up their
medical practice. They practiced medicine together until her husband passed away in 1971.
Sarah was involved in various medical organizations, and was especially passionate about the Cerebral
Palsy organization. Later in life, she enjoyed farming, cattle, gardening and assisting with decorations at
First Presbyterian Church of Huntington.
Sarah has 7 children; Chari, Stevie, Ralph, Johanna, Robert, Randall and Mary Alice. She also has 8
grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Sarah’s daughter, Chari, said she has many wonderful
