Captain Susie Latvala Editor THANK YOU My husband Jeff deserves a heartfelt ‘Thanks’ for his patience & support for the last eighteen pocket ‘calendar’ years! This wouldn’t be possible without him! ERIC MEEWES – FDX MEC WEBMASTE ALPA PILOT CODE OF ETHICS An Air Line Pilot will keep uppermost in his mind that the safety, comfort, and well-being of the passengers who entrust their lives to him are his first and greatest responsibility. • He will never permit external pressures or personal desires to influence his judgment, nor will he knowingly do anything that could jeopardize flight safety. • He will remember that an act of omission can be as hazardous as a deliberate act of commission, and he will not neglect any detail that contributes to the safety of his flight, or perform any operation in a negligent or careless manner. • Consistent with flight safety, he will at all times operate his aircraft in a manner that will contribute to the comfort, peace of mind, and well-being of his passengers, instilling in them trust in him and the airline he represents. • Once he has discharged his primary responsibility for the safety and comfort of his passengers, he will remember that they depend upon him to do all possible to deliver them to their destination at the scheduled time. • If disaster should strike, he will take whatever action he deems necessary to protect the lives of his passengers and crew. An Air Line Pilot will faithfully discharge the duty he owes the airline that employs him and whose salary makes possible his way of life. • He will do all within his powers to operate his aircraft efficiently and on schedule in a manner that will not cause damage or unnecessary maintenance. • He will respect the officers, directors, and supervisors of his airline, remembering that respect does not entail subservience. • He will faithfully obey all lawful directives given by his supervisors, but will insist and, if necessary, refuse to obey any directives that, in his considered judgment, are not lawful or will adversely affect flight safety. He will remember that in the final analysis the responsibility for safe completion of the flight rests upon his shoulders. • He will not knowingly falsify any log or record, nor will he condone such action by other crew members. • He will remember that a full month’s salary demands a full and fair month’s work. On his days off, he will not engage in any occupation or activity that will diminish his efficiency or bring discredit to his profession. • He will realize that he represents the airline to all who meet him and will at all times keep his personal appearance and conduct above reproach. • He will give his airline, its officers, directors, and supervisors the full loyalty that is their due, and will refrain from speaking ill of them. If he feels it necessary to reveal and correct conditions that are not conducive to safe operations and harmonious relations, he will direct his criticism to the proper authorities within ALPA. • He will hold his airline’s business secrets in confidence, and will take care that they are not improperly revealed. An Air Line Pilot will accept the responsibilities as well as the rewards of command and will at all times so conduct himself both on duty and off as to instill and merit the confidence and respect of his crew, his fellow employees, and his associates within the profession. • He will know and understand the duties of each member of his crew. If in command, he will be firm but fair, explicit yet tolerant of deviations that do not affect the safe and orderly completion of the flight. He will be efficient yet relaxed, so that the duties of the crew may be carried out in a harmonious manner. • If in command, he will expect efficient performance of each crew member’s duties, yet he will overlook small discrepancies and refrain from unnecessary and destructive criticism, so that the crew member will retain his self-respect and cooperative attitude. A frank discussion of minor matters of technique and performance after the flight will create goodwill and a desire to be helpful, whereas sharp criticism and peremptory orders at the moment will result only in the breakdown of morale and an inefficient, halting performance of future duties. • An Air Line Pilot will remember that his is a profession heavily dependent on training during regular operations and, if in command, will afford his flight crew members every reasonable opportunity, consistent with safety and efficiency, to learn and practice. He will endeavor to instill in his crew a sense of pride and responsibility. In making reports on the work and conduct of his crew members, he will avoid personal prejudices, make his reports factual and his criticisms constructive so that actions taken as a result of his reports will improve the knowledge and skill of his crew members, rather than bring discredit, endanger their livelihood, and threaten their standing in the profession. • While in command, the Air Line Pilot will be mindful of the welfare of his crew. He will see to it that his crew are properly lodged and cared for, particularly during unusual operating conditions. When cancellations result in deadheading, he will ensure that proper arrangements are made for the transportation of his crew before he takes care of himself. An Air Line Pilot will conduct his affairs with other members of the profession and with ALPA in such a manner as to bring credit to the profession and ALPA as well as to himself. • He will not falsely or maliciously injure the professional reputation, prospects, or job security of another pilot, yet if he knows of professional incompetence or conduct detrimental to the profession or to ALPA, he will not shrink from revealing this to the proper authorities within ALPA, so that the weak member may be brought up to the standards demanded, or ALPA and the profession alike may be rid of one unworthy to share its rewards. • He will conduct his affairs with ALPA and its members in accordance with the rules laid down in the Constitution and ByLaws of ALPA and with the policies and interpretations promulgated there from. Whenever possible, he will attend all meetings of ALPA open to him and will take an active part in its activities and in meetings of other groups calculated to improve air safety and the standing of the profession. • An Air Line Pilot shall refrain from any action whereby, for his personal benefit or gain, he take advantage of the confidence reposed in him by his fellow members. If he is called upon to represent ALPA in any dispute, he will do so to the best of his ability, fairly and fearlessly, relying on the influence and power of ALPA to protect him. • He will regard himself as a debtor to his profession and ALPA, and will dedicate himself to their advancement. He will cooperate in the upholding of the profession by exchanging information and experience with his fellow pilots and by actively contributing to the work of professional groups and the technical press. An Air Line Pilot the honor of his profession is dear, and he will remember that his own character and conduct reflect honor or dishonor upon the profession. • He will be a good citizen of his country, state, and community, taking an active part in their affairs, especially those dealing with the improvement of aviation facilities and the enhancement of air safety. • He will conduct all his affairs in a manner that reflects credit on himself and his profession. • He will remember that to his neighbors, friends, and acquaintances he represents both the profession and ALPA, and that his actions represent to them the conduct and character of all members of the profession and ALPA. • He will realize that nothing more certainly fosters prejudices against and deprives the profession of its high public esteem and confidence than do breaches in the use of alcohol. • He will not publish articles, give interviews, or permit his name to be used in any manner likely to bring discredit to another pilot, the airline industry, the profession, or ALPA. • He will continue to keep abreast of aviation developments so that his skill and judgment, which heavily depend on such knowledge, may be of the highest order. Having Endeavored to his utmost to faithfully fulfill the obligations of the ALPA Code of Ethics and Canons for the Guidance of Air Line Pilots, a pilot may consider himself worthy to be called…an AIRLINE PILOT. RETIREMENTS (AGE 65) Congratulations to the following ALPA Members who will be turning 65 in 2017. An ASAP Report will not be accepted if it appears to involve a conscious disregard or a substantial and unjustifiable risk. FOQA The FOQA program will be used for evaluating and improving the following areas: safety, aircraft performance, aircraft systems, pilot performance, operational performance, company procedures, training programs, fleet technical initiatives, projects and programs, aircraft design, ATC systems operations, airport operational issues, meteorological issues, technical operations, and any other area mutually agreed to by the parties. FOQA Data shall not be used in discipline/discharge action or investigation, including System Board of Adjustment proceedings. Only a Gatekeeper is authorized to determine the individual pilot(s) associated with any specific FOQA data. Identifying data will be removed from the FOQA data as soon as possible, but NLT 15 days from the date of acquisition of the FOQA data by the company. The Gatekeeper should, when required in the interest of safety, contact an individual crewmember(s) in order to ascertain facts related to the event, exceedance, or flight in question. Crewmember participation is voluntary and highly encouraged. Do not volunteer statements to anyone, including FedEx, FAA, or NTSB until you consult the ALPA Hotline and obtain Representation. Never surrender your certificate to any investigator. 2. Immediately ensure hospitalization and/or medical treatment for crew and jumpseaters. 3. Notify the MEC by calling the ALPA Hotline (202) 8924180 or (703) 892-4180 (collect calls accepted.) Notify FedEx GOC Command and Control Manager by calling (901) 397-8040. 4. Engage the ALPA Representation Department as soon as possible by calling the FDX MEC Office 866-FDX-ALPA 08001700 CST, Mon - Fri. If unable, ask the ALPA/Accident Incident Hotline responder to have the attorney contact you. 5. In a foreign country, ensure compliance with their laws; ask that FedEx and the U.S. Embassy be notified. Ask for an interpreter and an attorney. 6. Submit to drug/alcohol tests as requested by FedEx and authorized law enforcement agencies. Federal regulations require that the employer may be required to test for drugs and/or alcohol. With MEC representation, ensure that you comply with the regulations. 7. Do not consume any alcohol or nonprescription medications. If you need prescription medications, ensure you have a witness. 8. Remember NO STATEMENTS, NO ALCOHOL, and only medical attention need be in a hurry. IF YOU ARE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT/INCIDENT 1. Contact the ALPA Hotline - As soon as you are assured the immediate needs of your fellow crewmembers are being met, call ALPA immediately on the accident/incident hotline and relay the following information: • • • • • • • • • • Your name Accident Location Approximate Date and Time of the accident Aircraft Type Number of injuries and fatalities, if any Extent of aircraft damage (major, minor, hull loss) General description of accident (phase of flight, etc) Weather conditions at accident location Names of crewmembers Phone contact at accident location Also report the accident to FedEx- GOC Command and Control Manager at (901) 397-8040. The sooner ALPA and the MEC are brought into the loop, the better support can be provided. Any delay can really hurt later. All too often, what starts out as a minor incident that lulls the crew into believing no help is necessary suddenly blows up into a major event. The MEC then gets a late call and must play a catch-up game. 2. It is best if you secure ALPA representation immediately as there may be a potential for discipline. The ALPA Representation Department will be in contact with you to counsel you on the situational requirements prior to your talking to management. • If pressed for a statement or to be interviewed by the NTSB, FAA, or others, tell them you will make a statement after consultation with your ALPA/MEC representative. If a safety of flight item needs correcting immediately, you can, of course, mention it - and stop right there until you have representation. • NEVER make a statement to the press. Your ALPA/MEC representative will handle press requests. 3. Keep your crew together and obtain rest facilities away from the airport for all crewmembers. If there are any fatalities, with the resultant media attention, one option available is to check into the nearest hospital. Tell the medical personnel of your situation and your desire to get some rest. Specify those persons whom you want to see (including ALPA representatives), and ask that no other visitors be allowed to see you. 4. Contact your family if you wish, but do not automatically invite them to the scene or discuss the specifics of the accident/incident with them. Advise them that the ALPA FDX MEC will send someone to help them. If you feel that the news media or others will bother your family, the telephone company can install a temporary phone line for their private use until things quiet down. 5. If possible, get the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of jumpseaters and make copies of all documents relating to your flight and retain them for your use only. These can prove invaluable when you are trying to reconstruct the various aspects of your flight. Remember: A hastily written statement initially designed to help you can be taken out of context and introduced as evidence against you at a future date. 6. Prepare all written statements with the help of the ALPA Representation Department. You may be required to provide the Company and federal authorities with a written statement within a specified time. ALPA/FDX MEC will advise you regarding their requests. 7. Regardless of the circumstances, the crew nearly always suffers some post-accident or post-incident trauma. There is always a qualified critical incident response team specifically formed to assist with these issues, and help is available. All you have to do is ask the MEC or ALPA for it. 8. Regarding incidents only - Remember to file an ASAP report and NASA ASRS report (even if the event if classified as an incident) within the appropriate time limits. NASA reports can be filed online in conjunction with an ASAP report. For NASA reports, retain the receipt ASRS sends back to you. The burden of proof that you filed an ASRS report rests with you. DO NOT file an ASAP or NASA report if in an accident until speaking with the ALPA Representation Department. The committee members function as “empathetic peers” who refer pilots to appropriate resources, and provide any necessary follow-up support. In order to provide round the clock service, the PATH initially utilizes an answering service, who will put a PATH member in contact with the pilot requesting assistance, and hotline services are completely confidential. An ALPA pilot volunteer will take your call and mediate from a neutral position. Confidentiality is not only assured but is also required from the pilot. WHAT IS A CRITICAL INCIDENT? Aviation incidents/accidents are events that may evoke strong reactions for those involved. In their aftermath, crewmembers, accident investigators, and their families are at high risk for developing critical incident stress reactions, or the more serious PTSD. WHAT IS A STRESS REACTION? Stress reactions are psychological and physiological changes that occur in a person who has been exposed to a stressful event. We may not recognize our stress reactions and may even believe that because of our training and experience we are immune to them. Each person’s stress reactions will be different, and most crewmembers experiencing stress reactions most often complain about sleep problems, anger, or the loss of “flying as fun.” STRESS MANAGEMENT INFORMATION You CAN mitigate the effects of stress reactions. Remember: You are normal and are having common reactions to an abnormal situation. While exercise is always important, vigorous exercise is especially critical within the first 24-48 hours of an accident or incident. Take naps or just rest. Get more rest than normal. Eat healthy food and snacks. Eat meals on your regular schedule, even if you are not hungry. Drink more than your normal amount of water. This helps rid your body of toxins built up by the body’s physiological stress reaction. Reduce your use of caffeine and alcohol. Both interfere with normal sleep and the processing off accident/incident or trauma. Contact friends and talk to people you trust. This is the most healing action you can take. Talk about your reactions to the event and its effects on you. If you live alone, have someone stay with you for a day or so. Structure your time, keep busy, and follow your routine of eating, sleeping, exercising, time with family, etc. You may feel sore muscles in your body from the physiological stress. Insist on a critical incident stress defusing from your ALPA CIRP. DO NOT make big life changes or major decisions after a major event Make as many small, daily decisions as you can. This will give you a feeling of control over your life. In the event of an accident or incident with your airline, contact your family immediately to let them know you are ok. Tell them to expect calls from friends and family. An outgoing message to let those who call know you are ok is often helpful if you can’t answer the phone. Designate a CASUALTY ASSISTANCE LIAISON in VIPS to assist your family in the event you are involved in a serious incident or accident. Keep your will up to date. Talk to your significant other and/or family about what to expect in the event you are involved in a serious incident or accident, what to do, and where to get information. BEREAVEMENT The overall charter of the Bereavement Committee is to provide compassionate assistance after a crewmember’s death in any way the surviving family deems fit. Generally, this involves guiding the survivors through the benefits process and preparing them for the many changes that come with this life-changing event. Please designate a CAL in VIPS to assist us. If you would like a copy of the Surviving Spouse/Beneficiary Guide and inventory, it is available for download on the FDX ALPA website R&I page. If you do NOT have a Casualty Assistance Liaison (CAL) you need one! To designate a CAL, visit PFC, then VIPS, then “Crew Information.” Under “Contact Information” you will find “Casualty Assistant Liaison.” Fill in the contact information for your CAL (a CAL does not need to be a FedEx pilot – it can be anyone who can assist your family after an incident or accident.) This electronic form is accessed via the PFC home page. For hotel, catering, or GT concerns/issues positive or negative, we encourage you to submit a report via INSITE. Separate issues require separate tickets (i.e., please submit one for a hotel issue and a second for a GT issue on the same trip.) Please SIG PIREP or email us! CAN SCHEDULING DO THAT TO ME? If a pilot feels that Crew Scheduling is dealing with him in a manner that violates the CBA or FARs, he should proceed as follows: 1. Discuss the issue with a Scheduling Supervisor and/or the manager of Crew Scheduling. 2. Contact the FedEx Duty Officer at 877.FLT.DUTY. 3. Contact your Fleet Captain or Fleet Manager. 4. Contact FDX MEC Contract Enforcement: 901.842-2210 or 901.842.2211, 0900-1700 CT Mon-Fri. or e-mail [email protected]. If unable to resolve the issue in time: 1. Inform Crew Scheduling that you will comply IF compliance will not violate FARs!!! 2. Obtain the name and employee number of any Crew Scheduling personnel that you deal with. 3. Keep copies of all paperwork (i.e. pairing and all revisions, flight plan release, etc.) Ø While operating the trip, keep in mind your responsibility regarding fatigue and adequate rest for you and your crew. o From CBA 12.A.9 – “A pilot who is excessively tired prior to actual check-in for a trip in base following a legal rest period shall notify CRS immediately and speak to a Fleet Captain or the Duty Officer about his situation…” o CBA 12.A.9.b – “A pilot who becomes excessively tired subsequent to actual trip check-in shall notify CRS immediately and talk to the Duty Officer about his situation.” Ø Remember that individual pilots bear joint responsibility with the company for complying with all FARs. This fact may bring a different perspective to the “Fly now, Grieve later,” for the pilot must ensure that he does not violate any FAR. Ø If a member desires to file a grievance, he should contact FDX MEC Contract Enforcement to begin the process as soon as practical. Keep in mind there is ordinarily a 60 calendar day period deadline to file a grievance following the date on which the pilot acquired knowledge, or reasonably should have acquired knowledge of the fact(s) or event(s) giving rise to the grievance. Ø Pilots should file SIG PIREPS (ALPA) and INSITE Reports (FedEx) for any pairing or scheduling issue which arises. Ø Pilots are reminded to use the Fatigue Reporting System on pilot.fedex.com to bring attention to any positive and/or negative scheduling issues for a pairing/trip, and especially if calling in fatigued. DROP/OVERAGE: Drop the trip in conflict without pay and receive overage for the trip as if the dropped trip had never been there. The dropped trip will be eligible for make-up (M/U) and those CHs will be placed in the pilot’s make-up bank. OR 2. SUBSTITUTION: Elect to remain eligible for substitution (SUB) for the trip in conflict. The pilot will receive trip guarantee for the original trip that was extended and for the trip conflict, but will not receive overage during the time the extended trip overlapped the trip that went SUB; however, any portion of the extended trip which covers time previously free of duty (must be a legal rest period) will be counted as overage in accordance with normal overage rules provided in Section 4.BB.5. OR 3. OPEN TIME PRIORITY: Elect OTP, if eligible under Section 25. H.11.a. In this case, the pilot will receive trip guarantee for the original trip that was extended, and overage will be paid as if the conflicting trip(s) had been dropped. The pilot’s OTP bank will be credited with the CH value of the trip(s) for which OTP was elected. Credit hours flown in OTP status (PMU pay code) will be paid at 125% in accordance with Section 4.N of the CBA. TIMING The pilot will be allowed to choose between Drop/Overage (option 1) and SUB (option 2) until 30 minutes after block-in from the extended trip. A pilot wishing to elect OTP MUST do so by the deadlines as follow: 1. any time prior to the showtime of the original trip if the pilot was notified of substitution eligibility prior to showtime; or 2. when notified of his substitution eligibility if he is notified after showtime. NOTE: Unlike the other two options, there is no ability to elect OTP 30 minutes after block-in from the extended trip unless it can be done in accordance with the above parameters, even if it was inconvenient to elect OTP in the required time frame. DEFAULT SETTING If a pilot fails to make his election within 30 minutes after block-in, the pilot is deemed to have chosen the SUB option, and there will be no retroactive adjustments (see Section 4.BB.3.c.ii and 4.BB.4.c). If a pilot scheduled for a DH less than 16 hours on duty but more than 10 scheduled block hours, who is booked in Y, deviates in order to obtain a higher class of service on another carrier; the pilot’s Deviation Bank shall be credited with 130% of the Established Fare and the pilot’s deviation travel is NOT required to match the scheduled DH routing. THIS GUIDE IS ONLY UPDATED ANNUALLY. FEDEX ONLINE JUMPSEAT PROCEDURES To list for a BUSINESS or STAGING jumpseat: Business may be booked anytime within 72 hours of a company calendar activity - this prevents being bumped by a non-pilot. Consideration should be given to buying a ticket if you have a deviation bank to preclude possibly bumping a pilot with no bank. uUse the jumpseat website on pilot.fedex.com uCall Jumpseats 800-544-9040 or 901-224-5420, #2 To list for a PERSONAL jumpseat: uUse the jumpseat website on pilot.fedex.com uCall Jumpseats 800-544-9040 or 901-224-5420, #2 To request a jumpseat on a CHARTER flight email: [email protected] QYou must list at least 1 hour prior domestic, 2 hours prior int’l. QAlways remember to ask the Captain’s permission to ride on the airplane - being listed as a jumpseater does not give you the right to ride! ALWAYS ASK - both on and offline. QCatering is not provided on domestic flights unless scheduled for the jumpseat and domestic catering parameters are met. QThe captain email system is a company policy; reference FOM Section 2 to determine which aircraft can be booked prior with the Captain’s permission. If necessary, e-mail the Captain (cc: [email protected]) asking permission to ride in the cockpit - include the flight number and zdate in the subject. Captains approving the request should “reply all.” QALWAYS call jumpseats WHEN BOOKED in STANDBY to determine your bump eligibility. If you do not have bump authority and decide to make other arrangements, please cancel your standby reservation ASAP so that another pilot may book the jumpseat. QReservations must be cancelled AT LEAST TWO HOURS PRIOR if booked in BUSINESS and at least SIX HOURS PRIOR if booked as personal or staging in accordance with company policy. A no-show for a BUSINESS jumpseat may result in lost privileges for 2 days; a noshow for other jumpseats may result in a suspension of 30 days for the first offense and 90 days for a second offense. Always contact the MEC if this occurs. Depending on circumstances, privileges have been reinstated. QNeither the company nor global travel may EVER suggest jumpseating on another airline in support of company business (to do so is a violation of jumpseat protocol and policy). A deadhead ticket must always be provided with rare operational circumstances requiring use of FedEx jumpseat. In that case, when the contract parameters are met, the company may schedule a pilot to ride on a FedEx jumpseat for company business. QCall 901.797.4106 in MEM when jumpseating with golf clubs/bikes! DRESS CODE WHILE JUMPSEATING ON FEDEX Casual attire is approved as proper dress while traveling on FedEx only. In all cases, you must present a neat and clean appearance. As a safety measure appropriate footwear and attire are required to ride any jumpseat. The following items are considered inappropriate jumpseat attire: uMicro-miniskirts, shorts, t-shirts/shirts with no collar, jogging suits, workout clothing-sweats, bare midriff, tight and/or sheer/see through clothing, tank, sheer, strapless, or spaghetti strap tops, beach clothing. uHigh heeled shoes, sandals, mules, or spiked-heeled shoes are considered unsafe footwear and are not permitted. uJumpseating is not permited while you have a beard or goatee. BUMPING PRIORITY ON FEDEX Bumping must be coordinated with Jumpseat Administration. If you are trying to get on a flight that is full with Business or Staging priority, you may bump Personal travel status within the business day restrictions of FedEx policy. The bumping pilot must call Jumpseat Administration and ask if there are any reservations that they may bump. The only way Business bumps staging is in the event of a tail swap and less seats are available. As a FedEx pilot traveling within 72 hours of a VIPs Calendar activity, you are authorized by flight management to utilize Business priority ANYTIME. This includes between your staging address and base, or anywhere in the field. In any case, last minute bumps should be coordinated with the PIC. PROCEDURES FOR OTHER FEDEX EMPLOYEE JS RIDERS For jumpseat procedures, rules, and policies applying to other FedEx employees traveling aboard FedEx aircraft, please refer to the FOM. In short, to occupy a flight deck jumpseat, a non-pilot company business jumpseater must be a GOC dispatcher (required annual observation); or on the approved list on pilot.fedex.com; or approved by individual authorization letter; or in possession of an FAA Form 8430, with a specific travel date and specific flight authorized. All other non-pilot jumpseaters (Business or Not) MUST RIDE IN BACK and only on IRCD equipped aircraft. At show time, if you question the cockpit access authority of the traveler contact the Duty Officer and Jumpseat Administration. Follow-up with the MEC Jumpseat Chairman and always check company ID and expiration date, regardless of possession of a company policy issued boarding pass. PROCEDURES FOR OFFLINE PILOTS TO RIDE FEDEX Under current FedEx policy, only pilots of other approved CASS airlines can ride a domestic jumpseat or courier seat. Call Offline Jumpseat Reservations 1-866-357-5711 and provide the agent with the required information. If the phone line is busy or not answered, do not leave a message. Offline procedures (OJS Guidelines) are available on the jumpseat page of the ALPA website. An offline pilot may make a reservation no less than one hour prior to the scheduled flight. Operating FedEx pilots should always check with jumpseats before heading to your aircraft at any hub. It is possible an off line pilot has listed and showed AFTER your release was published. In this case you may not know the pilot has listed and is waiting until you receive your weight and balance— then it’s too late! The FedEx flight schedule is available three weeks in advance via the FDX MEC website or the ALPA National JS Committee website - http://www.jumpseatinfo.org. CASS JUMPSEAT AGREEMENTS CASS allows for pilots of a participating airline to ride in the cockpit jumpseat of another CASS airline, subject to electronic verification. All CASS airlines are vetted by FedEx ALPA and FedEx management for viable reciprocity; hence all CASS airlines may not be authorized for reciprocity with FedEx. If you would like ALPA to consider authorizing a specific carrier, contact the FedEx Jumpseat Committee. Company ID, medical, and pilots license are required to jumpseat using CASS. Passports are no longer required by the TSA but may be required by individual airline policy. Most airlines currently not participating in CASS allow FedEx pilots to ride as a jumpseater if an empty seat is available in the cabin. The following guidelines and restrictions should be observed while jumpseating on another airline, unless otherwise noted: QJumpseat riding is ALWAYS subject to Captain’s discretion and applicable FARs. Company ID, FAA, medical certificates, and (when asked) passport should be presented to the agent and/or the Captain. QNever Jumpseat on a flight in which you also hold a revenue ticket. Never allow a gate agent to talk you into jumpseating on a flight on which you hold a revenue ticket. Both these actions seriously violate jumpseat protocol and immediately jeopardize our offline jumpseat agreements. QDress code is uniform, business, or business casual as stated (no jeans off line). QJumpseat availability should be first come, first serve, however, today most airlines give their own pilots and subsidiaries a higher priority. Most airlines allow multiple jumpseat riders when open cabin seats are available. QCheck-in procedures vary by airport and airline. Allow sufficient time to check in at either the ticket counter, gate, or in some cases both. As a uniformed pilot, liquid and gel restrictions do not apply. Current TSA rules do not require a boarding pass to pass through screening, however in a very few airports, you may be required to get a jumpseat boarding pass from the ticket counter. (File a Jumpseat and Security Report). A few airlines allow a prospective jumpseater to make a non-rev listing (PNR) prior to travel by calling their reservations number during off-peak times (not during normal business hours). QRemember, jumpseating is a PRIVILEGE requiring professional conduct at all times. Be courteous to agents when requesting the jumpseat. Always ask the Captain’s permission and offer thanks for the ride, even if occupying a cabin seat. Never let an agent rush you past the cockpit without asking the Captain’s permission. FARs require the Captain know you’re aboard, and as evidenced by several thousand archived NASA reports—you may be utilized as a crewmember in the event of a security or emergency event. Frequent Flyer Alliances usually allow the reciprocal earning and redeeming of frequent flyer miles. Geographical, residential, and/or fare restrictions may apply. Additionally, most airlines have other airline partners that are not alliance members. For additional mileage earning opportunities, most airlines also partner with credit cards, hotels, travel companies, and certain retailers. See each airline’s website for specific restrictions and details. * Future/Elect Members # Affiliate Member Airlines ONE WORLD AMERICAN ....................
