Top Ten Reasons to have your child participate in our STEM program

Dear Parents:
We understand that you have many dreams for your child,
and we are pleased to partner with you as you seek to
broaden your child’s opportunities for the future. Science,
technology, engineering, and math (STEM) will provide
the foundation for many jobs in the coming years, and we
are committed to assisting our members as they explore
the possibility of a career in a STEM field.
We believe your child will benefit in many ways from his
or her participation. First, it will allow your child to
develop his or her STEM skills in a more relaxed, handson, and fun environment that is not always possible in
school. Another benefit is the interaction with dedicated,
caring mentors who will invest hours in your child,
teaching but also listening. And even if he or she doesn’t
decide to become a scientist or an engineer, the critical
thinking and problem solving skills that develop will help
him or her become successful in whatever field he or she
chooses. You can expect your student’s competence in all
things STEM to develop, resulting in greater confidence.
(And a confident student is often a motivated student!)
Finally, Club members will build a peer group of other
motivated, smart friends as they participate in local and
regional competitions together. I think you can see, STEM
could be a good thing for your family!
If you still need convincing, check out this list of the Top
Ten reasons your children should participate in the STEM
Education program at the Boys & Girls Clubs. We
welcome your family’s involvement and hope to work
together with you over the coming years to insure your
child has every opportunity to develop his or her STEM
interest and aptitude.

Top Ten Reasons Your
Children Should Participate in
the STEM Education Program
at the Boys & Girls Clubs
10. They will get to hang out with
other smart kids.
9. Science field trips are so much
more interesting than history field
trips.
8. They will learn essential problem
solving skills, and then they can
figure out how to repair anything in
your house.
7. They will research, read, and
report—never even realizing they
are doing school work.
6. You will hear them saying all
kinds of serious things like, “There’s
no ‘I’ in team.”
5. STEM professionals will show
them that “GEEK” is just another
word for cool.
4. It may lead your children to a
financially rewarding and personally
satisfying career as a STEM
professional…so that when they
grow up, they will have money to
take care of you.
3. They will develop practical
computer skills rather than just using
Facebook and Twitter.
2. They will have fun! What’s not to
love about making a mess and
watching things explode? (And you
won’t even have to clean it up!)
AND FINALLY, the number one
reason your children should
participate:
1. They will go new places, meet
new people, learn new skills….all
for $12 a year! (This is a good
deal—maybe you should join us
too!)
