Our aim is to nourish musicians with a sense of music and skills while fostering students and creating an atmosphere of music in university and community. Our orchestra has been invited to perform in various functions, such as the Outreach Day in HKUST, the Music Gallery in CUHK and the anniversary of the Medical Association. Through our enjoyable practices and performances, members gain a lot in terms of knowledge, stage experience and friendship. Our Orchestra has worked with local musicians including Mr. Alfred Wong (arrangement), Mr. King Ng King-‐
chuen (trumpet solo), Mr. Samuel Kwok (violin solo), Miss Pauline Tang (violin solo). Conductor – Dr. Ken Cheng Ken Cheng has participated for many years in the China Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra,
Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra Basic Notes Jazz Band and other public performances as a trumpet player and has been

From 1997 to 2005, Cheng served with the University Philharmonic Orchestra, HKUSTSU, and led the Orchestra in
various exchanges, including the 1999 visit to Zhongshan University, the 2002 Asia-Pacific Wind Festival in Guangzhou
and the 2003 Macau Band Festival. He also regularly organizes various types of special concerts, such as in 2004 held the
Yau Yuen-hing Band concert works. In 2005 the HKUSTSU Wind Ensemble and String Team has undergone
restructuring, merged to form the present University Philharmonic Orchestra, HKUSTSU, in which Ken remained as
the conductor. The Orchestra performs regularly every year, and Ken has worked with local musicians including Mr. Lo
See Yin (sheng solo), Mr. Samuel Kwok (violin solo), Mr. Ryan Poon Yeuk-kei (clarinet solo), Mr. Fuk-yin Koon (piano

Apart from conducting, Cheng also takes part in the music arrangement and is often invited to the training and
adaptation of performance scores, including “Copacabana”, “Sighed Ten Times”, “Misery”, “Pearl of the Orient”,
“Joseph Koo Gold”, “Il Mondo”, “Selected Music from Hayao Miyazaki’s Animations”, “She”, “A Dream Doraemon
theme song” and so on.
