TEACH ME SOMETHING
Opening Activity
Lesson 5 - I Will Learn From Others!

DESCRIPTION: The children will volunteer to come up and teach the entire class something that
they know.
MATERIALS NEEDED: You will need this Help Sheet.

3.
We all know a lot of things, but we all also have a lot to learn.
Let’s learn from each other today.
I am going to teach you something that I know, and then I will ask some of you to teach us all
something that you know.
For detailed instructions on how to lead the activity, see the Small Group Leader DVD.
Note: Start by teaching the children something that you know. It could be how to throw a fastball, or
how to fold a paper airplane, or anything.
DURING THE ACTIVITY:
Now that you have learned something from me, I want to learn something from you.
Think about a skill or talent that you can teach to us.
It could be just about anything.
You could teach how to do a dance step, how to tie your shoes, how to do a somersault or
how to whistle a tune.
5. You could teach us a cheer you know, or a quote or Bible verse you have memorized, or even
how to say something useful in another language.
6. After you teach us something, you will tell us where you learned it or who taught it to you.

Note: Allow as many children as possible the opportunity to teach something to the group. Be sure to
ask all the children where or from whom they learned their skills. Below are a few other suggestions
for things that the children can teach others.
• How to spell a hard to spell word
• How to shoot a basketball
• How to juggle
• How to make a shadow puppet
• How to tie a bow tie

AFTER THE ACTIVITY:

2.
3.
You all know a lot of things and you learned them from other people.
Thank you for teaching us some of what you know.
It is good when we have the chance to learn something from other people.
CLOSING STATEMENT:
Just like you all learned things from someone, and just like we learned from you, we should learn
from others, especially from people who follow God. Let’s go into Large Group and learn more
about it.
