• A unit dedicated to the education of software developers:
Information Systems Academy (ISA). It started in 2014.
The objective of education in our university is the wellrounded formation of the human person. This is why
every first degree programme includes several courses in
the humanities. We also seek, by deliberate design of the
programmes, to inculcate and groom the entrepreneurial
spirit in our students and participants.
The University aims at nurturing individuals who are
professionally competent, creative and enterprising, zealous
for the common good and able to make free and morally
upright decisions and who thus act as positive agents of
change in service to society.
The founders of Pan-Atlantic University were inspired in
beginning this educational project by the teachings of the
founder of Opus Dei, an institution of the Catholic Church.
Furthermore, the Prelature of Opus Dei provides the spiritual
and pastoral means necessary in order that the University
may maintain and develop its Christian identity. The Prelature
of Opus Dei helps to ensure that all teaching, publishing and
research activities in PAU are inspired by the Christian view of
the person, the world and society.

THE UNIVERSITY
FROM THE VICE-CHANCELLOR
In reporting on the activities of PAU during the last academic
session, perhaps the main thing to say is that in spite of
multiple problems and obstacles we have successfully
concluded the first year in our new B.Sc. programmes
in Mass Communication, Business Administration and
Accounting. We have made a conscious decision that
our first priority during the early years of our life as a full
university will be to deliver first class education; with all
due humility I can say that we are on course in making
this a reality. I have tried to speak regularly with groups of
students to get feedback from them on their experiences in
the University and the message I have heard most often is
that they are very pleased with the quality of the teaching
they are receiving: small classes, lecturers who go out of
their way to make themselves understood and accessibility
by all members of staff.
I would like to thank especially the students and parents
who had enough faith in Pan-Atlantic University last year to
make us their choice even though at the time there was very
little to see in our new campus. That they do not regret that
choice is perhaps better proved by the fact that—no doubt
due to what they have said to their friends—this year there
is a significant increase in the number of applications.
a strong online component. The Lagos Business School
offers a Modular Executive MBA programme in which 30%
of the interaction takes place online. Dr. Yinka David-West
and Dr. Obinna Muogboh, both of them lecturers in the
Lagos Business School, have developed a MOOC on Project
Management for the African Management Initiative which
is currently being taken by students all over the African
continent. In all of these programmes the main objective is
to get participants to interact online regularly with faculty
and among themselves.
Our experience is that the two key factors in attaining these
objectives is to deploy the right software and get faculty
to adapt their teaching style to the demands of this new
medium. None of these two things are easy to achieve,
but I am happy to report that after a good deal of trial
and error, we feel we are now on the right track and soon
will move to deploy more systematically our newly gained
capabilities in all our existing programmes. I am certain
that all of this will constitute a strong source of competitive
advantage for Pan-Atlantic University in the near future.
Another major development in the University during recent
times relates to our use of new educational technologies.
Many of you will have heard of MOOCS (Massive Open
Online Courses) as they have been widely discussed in
recent years—and often presented as the wave of the
future and a sure panacea for all manner of problems. By
now calmer assessments of their potentialities have come
to prevail, but there is no doubt that MOOCS embody
the most exciting development in education technology
in recent times. In PAU we want to be proactive in taking
advantages of the possibilities of the new online means
of instruction, while remaining determined to stress those
factors that make PAU special such as first class physical
facilities and close personal interactions and group
learning. The practical outcome of these considerations
is that we are betting on blended learning approaches
that use online instruction as a complement rather than a
substitute for face to face interaction.
We have taken several significant steps to develop the
capability to deliver instruction online. The Enterprise
Development Centre (EDC) has a programme in cooperation with the World Bank for delivering entrepreneurial
education and they have already done three editions
of it. In this four-month programme, 60% of the work is
done online, while the balance is delivered face to face.
EDC has also developed jointly with the Bank of Industry
and the African Management Initiative a Youth Enterprise
Support Programme which aims at training 50,000 young
entrepreneurs over the next five years and which will have

Scholarships
Pan-Atlantic University offers tuition fee aid/scholarships
to 15% of our undergraduate students. 5% are on full
scholarships while 10% are on partial scholarships. The
scholarship programme is a corporate social responsibility
(CSR) initiative of the University.
Scholarships are based on merit and the need for financial
aid. Merit does not refer to good grades alone but also
demonstrating a character congruent with values upheld
by the University. During the 2014/2015 academic session,
a total of 11 students were on scholarship; 6 enjoyed full
scholarships while 5 were on partial scholarships.
In addition these students received further financial aid by
participating in the work-study programme. Students on
work-study are employed at different jobs in the University
and are paid for the number of hours of work they put in per
month. The programme accommodates a maximum of 20
hours a week per student.
Police Post
PAU during the session donated a police post to the IbejuLekki community. The police post is located just outside
the campus walls and is accessible only via the expressway.
This is because it is meant primarily to serve the surrounding
community. It however enjoys all the utility services available
to the university community (power, water, sewage treatment).
The building features the following – a charge room, a fully reenforced armoury room, an en-suite commanding officer’s
room, an administration office, female and male changing
rooms and toilets.

Lagos Business School (LBS)
Founded in 1993, the MBA Tour is an independent information
source on MBA admissions which provides opportunities for
face-to-face interaction between top business schools and
potential students across the world. The group’s events are
limited to a carefully selected group of business schools that
are reviewed and approved by an advisory board of peers.
Lagos Business School (LBS) is the unit of the School of
Business Administration which offers programmes for
experienced professional managers.
HONOURS AND RECOGNITION TO SCHOOL/
ACCREDITATION
•
In the FT’s Executive Education 2015 ranking LBS once
more was placed among the top 60 business schools globally
and third in Africa in the open enrolment executive education
category, for the ninth consecutive year. In addition, having
also for the first time entered for the custom programmes
category, LBS was ranked in the 79th spot, the only business
school in West Africa to feature in the ranking.
• LBS has been accredited by the Association of African
Business Schools (AABS) at at a meeting of the association in
GIBS, Johannesburg, South Africa.
• LBS won the Leadership in Education and Training Award
of the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) for
Best practice in management education.
The NBCC award celebrates excellence and good governance
in varying areas of national life. It provides a platform to
recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements across
different areas of Nigerian business.
PROGRAMMES
DEVELOPMENTS IN PROGRAMMES
LBS has restructured its full-time MBA programme in its
•quest
to develop managers with globally competitive skills
that will prepare them for an increasingly complex business
environment.
With the new structure, applicants will be required to have a
minimum of three years’ post-qualification work experience,
rather than one and the programme will now last 18 months
instead of 21 months. Also, participants can now take part
in international exchange programmes for elective courses.
• LBS has officially adopted GMAT and the GRE Revised
• LBS emerged first runner-up in the ‘delivering excellence
General Test as the only forms of written assessment
prequalifying applicants for its full-time MBA programme.
This development, driven by the School’s efforts to boost the
local and international competitiveness of its students, is a
departure from the earlier model which gave candidates the
option to either write GMAT or the LBS entrance examination.
•
It is expected that this initiative will strengthen the
international recognition given to MBA candidates and also
broaden the disciplinary diversity of applicants.
