Full marks can only be obtained if both stories are mentioned in some detail 6 Agree Odysseus and men bring the owner gifts They take only what they need in terms of food and drink They do not harm the cave or the Cyclops’ animals Disagree They burgle what is obviously someone’s home They steal food and animals They make the owner drunk to blind him when he is only protecting his property Any other relevant points 7 Sensible 5 KU 5 EV Decides not to go off by himself to investigate smoke (men might have been worried by his disappearance) Accepted help from Hermes and followed instructions given Considerate Leaves men to rest by ship when they arrive Killed stag to feed men Is prepared to take risks to rescue his men Slept with Circe although she was the ‘enemy’ Negative element might be the fact that his men were beginning to get bored and wanted to go home.
