Accessibility on the
Amplify Tablet.
The Amplify Tablet includes a host of accessibility features right out of the box that enable
students with vision, speech, hearing, physical or motor skill disabilities to engage in
powerful digital learning. In addition to these built-in features, students and teachers can
access other free tools and applications via the Google Play Store to enhance learning by
diverse users on the tablet.
Vision
Full-screen magnification
The Amplify Tablet enables visually impaired users to enter full-screen magnification with
a triple-tap on the screen, and even type and interact with the device while zoomed in.
Gesture Mode
Blind users can use Gesture Mode to reliably navigate the interface using touch and swipe
gestures in combination with speech output. Gestures allow users to interact with their
apps by manipulating the screen objects they provide.
TalkBack and Explore by Touch
TalkBack provides voice feedback and navigating by swiping in combination with the
Explore by Touch feature to describe audibly the apps and tools on the tablet as a user’s
finger moves over them.
Extra Large Text
Extra Large Text enables teacher and students to enlarge the size of text throughout the
entire Android system and third-party applications.
Web Scripts
Web Scripts enables the browser to provide spoken feedback to students as they browse
and interact with web sites and applications.

SoundBack
SoundBack provides audible feedback for eyes-free computing, including loud sounds for
specific tools and buttons.

BrailleBack
BrailleBack enables full support for braille accessibility services and braille devices. It
works together with the TalkBack app to give a combined braille and speech experience.
This app lets the user connect a supported refreshable braille display to the tablet via
Bluetooth.
Darwin Reader
The Darwin Reader app is completely navigable with the arrow keys. All menus are fully
vocalized, and users navigate by tapping the stylized graphics on the screen.
Speech and hearing
Students with speech and hearing impairments will be able to communicate on the
Amplify Tablet using built-in tools such as the Text-to-Speech and Voice-to-Text features.
Some of the Amplify Tablet’s Classroom Tools, including Short Answer, Discussion and
collaboration via Google Drive, are also useful communication tools for students with
disabilities.

Hands On Video Relay Services (HOVRS)
Hands On Video Relay Services (HOVRS) allows students with hearing impairments to
communicate with a live interpreter via video, who conveys the message with a hearing
speaker on the other line.
Hearing Aid—Cochlear
Hearing Aid—Cochlear filters background noises and boosts human speech when
hearing impaired students use headphones.
Talk—Text to Voice
Talk—Text to Voice lets users convert text to voice and is a useful application for non-verbal students.
Physical & Motor Skills
Touch & Hold Delay
The Amplify Tablet’s Touch & Hold Delay feature allows a student to
adjust the delay required for the tablet to notice that the user is
touching and holding an item.

Tecla Access is a set of open software and hardware tools that facilitate access to
electronic devices for people with mobility impairments.
Easy Questions
Easy Questions makes it possible to pose questions as well as recognized, record and

VizZle Student Player
VizZle Student Player provides interactive instructional lessons for students who learn
best from visually supported materials.
