day of the month. Participation is on
a first come, first served basis. For some

is located directly under the mailbox. The
home address for the Activity Chair will be

tube below their mailbox. There will be
instructions for signing up and dropping
off your check. For activities that are not
limited, occur weekly or do not require
a payment, sign-up is done directly to the
activity email address that is noted in
the newsletter.
Tubing Checks:
•Please include your email and phone number.
•Place your check in an envelope and
put it in the tube.
•You MUST sign up on the Activities
Sign-Up form in the tube to complete your registration. Dropping off a check and failure to sign-up will not enable

Activity Chairs. Always include your email
address and phone number on the check.
Activities charging a fee to attend will
have a no-refund policy. If there is a wait
list and you can be replaced, you will be

Military Tour: Fort Stewart Tour April 11, 7:30 am – 4 pm
Fort Stewart is the home of the US Army’s famed 3rd Infantry
Division—The Rock of the Marne—and the largest Army base
east of the Mississippi River. We will receive a command
briefing, and in the past we have had the opportunity to
climb in and on the Division’s major warfighting machines, the
Abrams Main Battle Tank and the Bradley Fighting Vehicle;
visit Warrior’s Walk, a memorial for fallen 3rd ID soldiers; learn
some combat skills at the virtual firing range; and have lunch
with the troops. Other highlights: a demonstration of a US
Army tactical unmanned drone. You do not want to miss this
exciting demonstration nor any of the other tour highlights.
The Fort Stewart visit is one of our most popular events and is
sure to fill up quickly. Be sure to sign up early. Space is limited
to 50 participants. We will meet at the Skidaway Island United
Methodist Church parking lot at 7:30 am, leaving promptly at
7:45 am for the one-hour bus ride to Fort Stewart. The cost is
$39 per person, which includes bus coach transportation and
lunch. You must be a US citizen to attend this tour. Signup
begins @ 8 am March 16th and ends March 30th. Please sign
reservation form and leave check payable to New Neighbors,
Inc. in the tube at 9 Sparkleberry Lane in (OK). Please include
your e-mail address and phone number on the check.

Discover Savannah, Port of
Savannah Tour: A Second View
of Cranes, Containers, and
Ships, Thursday, April 27th,
9 am — 12 noon
Back by popular demand, Discover
Savannah will offer a second tour
of the Port of Savannah. That’s
right; we are going to “Do It Again.” The Georgia Ports Authority has agreed
to give us a second opportunity to explore the Savannah seaport from the
inside. The tour will include a one-hour Q & A session to be held at the facility
followed by a one-hour narrated tour of the port facility by bus. If you missed
out on the tour in December, we hope you will be able to join us this time. Please
note that for those of you who had the opportunity to join us in December, we ask
that you do not sign up for the tour again. We will travel by bus for this event. Please
arrive at the Skidaway Methodist Church parking lot no later than 8:45am. The bus will
depart at 9:00 am sharp and return to the church by noon. Sign up will begin @ 8 am on
March 16th. We have 20 seats available. Please tube your check made out to New Neighbors,
Inc. for $15 per person to 5 Heatherstone Lane (PL); be sure to include your name, email, and

be able to contact you regarding your reservation. Prior to the tour all participants will be
required to provide their legal name as shown on their driver’s license or passport as

the wild side
NN Nature Tour: Wassaw Island Nature Tour
(Wilderness Southeast), Monday, April 17th, 9 am – 1 pm
As we travel by motor boat on a winding course through marsh creeks,
we’ll look for dolphins, bald eagles and simply enjoy the beautiful
nature around us. Our destination is Wassaw Island National Wildlife
Refuge. It has over 10,000 acres of salt marsh, coastal forest and dunes.
Wassaw wildlife refuge has an especially rich variety of birdlife: wading
birds, birds of prey, egrets and herons, seabirds and ducks, and many
abundant smaller species, with the spring migrations offering especially
good times to birdwatch. Wassaw Island is also an important nesting
spot for the loggerhead turtle, several dozen of which use its beach
every year to bury their eggs. Our guide, from Wilderness Southeast,
will walk us through forested areas and along a virtually unspoiled
beach. He will explain the beautiful, as well as the stranger
items, that have washed ashore. It will be a day to enjoy
beachcombing, bird watching, photography, or
exploring the magnificent maritime forest and
sheltering sand dunes. Space is very limited on this trip;
we need a minimum of 8 participants and can only take
a total of 12
participants. Cost is $90 per person
which
includes gratuity, water and light
snacks.
Participants should bring a picnic
lunch and drinks for the day. Sign up
begins on March 16th @ 8 am 2 Moonrise Circle (DC).
Make your check out to New Neighbors, Inc. and be sure to
include your name, email and phone number.

Historic Tour: “Footprints of the Past”
Cemetery Tour, Thursday, May 4, 9:30 am – 1:30 pm
The last New Neighbors Historic Tour for this season
will enable us to learn about the past by exploring the
historic cemeteries of Savannah. We will depart from
Columbia Square to the start of our tour in Colonial
Cemetery, where we will learn from a tour guide
specializing in Savannah’s cemeteries about the history
of the era and the famous people who are buried there.
During lunch at nearby 1790 Restaurant, we’ll continue
learning about Colonial Cemetery and the other famed
two cemeteries—Bonaventure and Laurel Grove. We
will meet at the United Methodist Church no later than
9:30 am to form carpools; we will be leaving at 9:40 am
If you plan on driving, please note that meters downtown cost 25 cents / 15 minutes of parking. You can
park near Columbia Square or perhaps the city garage at State St. & Abercorn St.
The tour will end after lunch. The cost is $50 per person, which includes lunch.
Sign up begins March 16 @ 8 am. We are limited to 30 participants based upon
City of Savannah walking tour regulations. Tube your check payable to New
Neighbors, Inc. and sign-up at @ 7 Seawatch Drive (PL). Please complete all
information on the sheet, including your phone number, and email address, as
well as lunch choice. Use only one line per registrant. Lunch options: Fried green
tomato BLT, salmon sandwich, or house salad with grilled chicken and a dessert.
If the sign-up sheet is full, you are welcome to add your name to the waiting
list in the tube; no need to include a check for now. We will advise you if there
are cancellations. For those who successfully register, we will confirm your
reservations. Questions? Email [email protected]

Congrats to
our MahjMadness
Tournament
Winners!
A good time was had by all
twenty-four Mahjong fans at
our first Marathon, held in
February at Plantation. The
tiles and jokers were with the
following three ladies who
bested the Mahjong winds
and were our winners:
First Place: Pam Shepis
Second Place: Carri Stoltz
Third Place: Jayne Rogers
Well done, MJ Champs!
And a big thank you to all the
players who supported this
event. Everyone enjoyed a full
day at the tables and four lucky
ladies won raffle prizes. It was
a rousing success and is on
our calendar for next year!
