The main theme of this poem is time. Time is limited for friendship and happiness, because nothing lasts forever. She tries to fix the book, but cannot come up with anything. She is poor, so she tries to sell the book in order to support her child. She is unsuccessful. Content / CM / Meaning? / Theme(s)? The main theme of the poem is poverty and the lengths women will go to protect their kids. The author is struck by poverty and she needs to nurture her child.
