A man sits on the beach and has sadness within him. He hears a sailor
singing, but it doesn't cheer him up. At the end of the poem, he reveals
that his friend just passed away and he cannot take that back.
Content / CM / Meaning? / Theme(s)?
The main theme of this poem is time. Time is limited for friendship and
happiness, because nothing lasts forever. The man describes that he
would have acted different with his friend if he got to relive the
friendship.

This poem is great, because it contains a surprising reveal at the end.
The surprise was striking, and it added substance to the poem. The
aspect of time added depth to the poem, and that is why it is poetic.

An author creates a book, and she does not like the result. She tries
to fix the book, but cannot come up with anything. She is poor, so
she tries to sell the book in order to support her child. She is
unsuccessful.
Content / CM / Meaning? / Theme(s)?
The main theme of the poem is poverty and the lengths women will
go to protect their kids. The author is struck by poverty and she
needs to nurture her child. The book is the only hope for the poverty
to end, but the result backfires.

Heroic Couplet
Commentary (What do you want to say? Why like? Questions? Synthesis / Allusions-Connections /
Relevance to personal experience, to literature, 20Q’s? etc.)? “Poetic” Traits?
This poem was striking because there was no clear reason why the
author needed the book to be perfect. It was surprising to find out
that she was poor and needed to support her child. The poem
proves that not everything works out in the end.
