Welcome Back
I would like to use this opportunity to welcome you to the new school year. I trust that you had a
restful holiday and I know that you probably breathed a huge sigh of relief when the start of school
came around. It was great to see so many smiling faces in the yard on Monday morning, where great
excitement, laughter, some anxiety and a few tears filled the air (from parents not students!).
I hope that the new families and new staff feel settled here at OLV. I have been appointed as
continuing Principal here at Our Lady of the Visitation and I am honoured to take on this role and I do
so knowing that we are entrusted with a great responsibility in moulding young lives into successful
adults.
My goal is two-fold: assist children develop socially/emotionally and to pursue academic excellence.
The staff and I are committed to providing all that is necessary to achieve these goals. One of the
most important components of a good school is the partnership between the school and parents
who work together for the best interest of students. A close partnership between home and school
is one that will afford our students the best possible model for success. Commitment to achieve the
best for our students is the key to our success with the students we teach. It is the hope of the staff
that all parents will help us fulfil this commitment to excellence on behalf of ALL students at Our Lady
of the Visitation School. School and home must work together to build skills and knowledge,
reinforce values, and develop a strong sense of self-worth.
I look forward to a blessed and exciting 2017.

Beginning Year Mass
Our Beginning of Year Mass for 2017 will be held on Tuesday 14 February at 9.30. This is a great way
to formally start our school year. Parents are invited to attend.
Well Being Day / Picnic – Friday 10 February
All classes are currently doing a unit of work titled, Belonging, Connecting and Relating. As we begin
the new school year, with students having a new teacher and in new classes it is important for them
to connect as a class, establish new routines and procedures feel part of the class group. The topics
for this unit have been taken from several curriculum areas which have similar themes.
To conclude this unit of work we will have a Well Being Day (Friday 10 February) – this will involve a
series if activities in groups from Reception to Year 7 which will be fun and enjoyable for students.
We will also have a picnic lunch on the oval with Buddy classes.
2017 School Calendar of Events
Being sent home today is a 2017 School Calendar of Events. This is so parents can make plans to
attend events which involve their children. There may be times when changes to this calendar may
be made. These changes will be communicated well in advance. Please place this calendar in a
prominent place.
Please note that in 2017, the start of each term will be on the Monday after the holidays and the two
pupil free days will be the Friday prior to the Adelaide Cup and Queen’s Birthday long weekends.

Fire Drill
Tomorrow we will hold an Evacuation Procedure prior to recess. On Monday all students (School &
Preschool) were spoken to about the different bells and their sounds. The Fire Evacuation Bell is a
“whoop whoop” sound and the Lock down bell are continuous blasts. If you are on the school
premises and hear the Fire Alarm, please follow the Evacuation plan or follow staff directions. Our
Evacuation point is to the oval, so make your way safely out onto the oval.
It is important to practice this evacuation in the event of an incident.
