Northern Kentucky University student
Katherine Hahnel sang “You Are My
Sunshine” and “My Old Kentucky
Home” to her great-grandmother Lorna
Wilde in the past. Katherine, the Student Government Association president, also sang with her sorority members in a “musicale” fundraiser that
was held on Nov. 6 on NKU’s campus
in Highland Heights. Now she wants
to share the power of music therapy
with others. Katherine said “it is Sigma Alpha Iota’s goal to raise $3,000
for iPods and music for 30 residents at
Carmel Manor.”
Carmel Manor has a few “Music and
Memory” iPods already that created
stirring reactions from residents. The
additional iPods will be a blessing.
Thank you Katherine and Sigma Alpha
Lota. From her experience with her
own great-grandmother, Katherine said
that sometimes music is the only way
you can reach a person suffering from
Alzheimer’s.
From the Director’s Desk - The Spirit of Christmas
What is the “Spirit of Christmas”?
We wish this to and for each other
during this time of year. It is not found
among presents, ribbons, shopping and
what everyone deems the “Holiday
Rush”. These are all part of the
Christmas Season but in essence not
the true “spirit”. The Spirit of Christmas lies within us and is as gentle as
the new falling snow. It is the
realization that God loved us so deeply
that He sent us His Son to be our redeemer. It is the understanding that
Mary loved so deeply she said “yes”,
her profound yes when asked to be the
Mother of God. It is the peaceful love
that warms our hearts as we go about
this season. It is the joy we find in each
new day knowing that we are all
children of God and loved by Him
without exception. The Spirit of
Christmas is not rushed, but a quiet
stillness, warm and inviting us to give
of ourselves to others. Smiles, extended hands, kind words, understanding
and forgiving hearts are all part of the
Spirit of Christmas.
Our Christmas wish for you is that
you and those you love, and all who
are a part of your lives will feel the
true Spirit of Christmas within your
hearts as we celebrate the Birth of
Jesus, Our Lord and Savior.

spiritual, and personal needs, our staff works to connect personally with each resident, and get to know their story.
