SPANISHTIME® INDEPENDENT PRACTICE (P)
“SCHOOL - LA ESCUELA”
ACTIVITY 1:
• Use your newsletter to review the school vocabulary & phrases. Say them in English and then
in Spanish.
• Take out your school backpack and practice finding the vocabulary words. You can even
take turns testing a friend to see who can guess more correctly OR as you pull it out, see
who can say it faster!
ACTIVITY 2:
• Make a collage with the objects from your school vocabulary list.
• Label the pictures (for the benefit of the parent and the young students beginning to recognize letters)
• If you find a picture not found on the vocabulary list, look it up in your Spanish-English dictionary and then label your picture! (Keep your drawings for the next activity)
ACTIVITY 3:
• Find black & white pictures of the school vocabulary
• Download clipout from the internet (do it with your kids!)
• Cut out the object and put it into a Ziploc bag.
• Now, using dry erase markers, you can color and re-color the pictures and then try to namethem all...use your list...See how much fun it is!
ACTIVITY 4
• Try to find the vocabulary words in your regular school classroom, your house, your parent’s
home office, or your room at home.
• Teach your friends/parents who don’t speak Spanish how to say the words.
• For friends that speak in Spanish, do it together to see how many you can get right! You will
probably really impress your classroom teacher and friends! Have fun!
*** Remember children often UNDERSTAND and RECOGNIZE more than they can speak when
learning a new language. Mastery comes with repetition, so keep practicing!
