John Tod was born i n Hartford, Connecticut, i n 1779 and a t t e n d e d s c h o o l s i n t h a t s t a t e and a l s o Yale College, He l e f t Connecticut w h i l e a young man and waS b r i e f l y connected a s a n a s s i s t a n t master with C h a r l o t t e H a l l School a t Aquasco, Maryland during 1801 and 1802.
