NEWSLETTER . n Ja 1 20 7 © 2004 PRESIDENT’S NOTES Volume 14 CONTENTS Hi Y'all Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. The Club Christmas Party was a real blast. Seems like all 62 attendees had a real good time!! A real Big Thank You to Cyndy, Shirley, Barb & Rachel for all the work planning, shopping & wrapping all those really nice door prizes. Shirley sure does a great job on the table decorations!!! The gift exchange took place in a "timely" manner thanks again to Shirley. Monday December 12, club members drove 14 cars to Llano to attend a memorial and Celebration of Life for Rick, He was a former club member and a really great guy. We also went to show our support for Jackie, another great person. Thanks to all who supported this event. Just a reminder, if you find a new member, the club dues for them are $20.00 after January 1st until March 31st. See Y'all at the January 10th meeting. DON WEBER JUSTIN CRAIG AMBER COX BARBARA WEBER MARK KIDD, DON WEBER JOHN WARREN John Warren, a longtime and founding member of our club, who was also made our first Lifetime Member, passed away at his home on Thursday December 29, 2016. He was lovingly attended in his final days by his cousin Joanne and her daughter Stephanie.. He had battled cancer in recent months and was at peace with the final outcome. He greatly missed Margie, his wife, who died in 2014. While he was both in hospice care in Lampasas and while he was at home, many of his club friends came to visit him, and occasionally brought a small treat, such as a milkshake or ice cream, both of which he enjoyed very much. Just a few weeks before he died, he was able to come to Wednesday morning breakfast at Mama‟s a couple of times. A few weeks before, he was the guest of honor at Toupsies‟ restaurant in Lampasas, an event which he enjoyed very much. John will be missed by all us members, and one of his wishes was to have us bring our classic cars to his funeral for the procession to the cemetery. His funeral and burial was on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 and many members were in attendance, braving a cold and windy hillside gravesite to pay their last respects. The kind members of John‟s First Presbyterian Church put on a very nice lunch reception following the burial. As a final salute to an old hot-rodder, a couple of members did burn outs in his honor. Other folks may not understand but John very likely was smiling down from heaven, saying “Go Guys!!” Here are a few pictures. 2 EDITOR’S CORNER It is a slow season, in these days after the hectic pace that we impose on Christmas and New Years. The cold weather is causing us to stay indoors, even forcing us to cancel the January Friday Night Fever. As a result, Mark is taking a well-deserved break from having to submit an article for this month. We‟ll have more features and pics for you next month. Even your friendly Editor is taking a break, putting out an abbreviated issue for this month. RON ADWERS Ron recently called your Editor and told him he had suffered a nasty fall on his ranch. He was tracking down a deer and fell headfirst into a ravine, suffering a gash to his head and hurting his back. He will be out of action as our club Photographer for a while, and able to get around only with a walker. As a result, the Editor will do his best to fill in for Ron. All he (Editor) has to do is to remember to take his camera along to club events 3 JANUARY’S FRIDAY NIGHT FEVER FEAST AT JUANE’S BRRRR!!!!! It was much too cold to stand around in the frigid northerly winds on the east side of the Burnet Town Square, so it was decided that the club would meet and then depart the Shell station on the east side of Burnet on Hwy. 29 at 5:00 PM for the short journey to Bertram and Juane‟s Mexican Restaurant on the east side of Bertram. Since the parking lot is gravel and the weather was so cold, only a few folks brought their fancy cars. Carlton brought his red „67 Fairlane, Tom and Shirley brought their Cadillac coupe and Gary and Sue brought their Cadillac Corvette. O, yes, your editor and Judy brought their classic PT Cruiser (if he missed any other classics, blame it on the frigid weather and his desire to get inside a warm building. 4 A LONE PICTURE OF OUR CHRISTMAS PARTY O‟ woe is us, the cybernetic gremlins are alive and well, and they chose to show up in the CD that had the Christmas pictures. As a result, all we ended up with is ONE picture. That picture shows our own Mark at one of the tables. As soon as we can recapture all the other pictures, we‟ll get them into the February issue of this newsletter. But for the present, here is our Activity Director in all his splendor. Actually, he deserves lots more coverage, since he works very hard to put together interesting programs for all of us to be involved in. This picture shows him performing one of his many skills. More pics next month. 5 Regularly scheduled CAR SHOWS Bastrop First Friday each Month Half price food and drinks for participants.
