Christmas Fair
Thank you to everyone who made our Christmas Fair such a
resounding success. Many of our parents and friends put in
so much work to get the event off the ground. We raised approximately £1,000 on the night and are now on the way to being able to
plan the redevelopment of the school playground. It was a lovely
event for our families to enjoy and a great way to start the season
of Advent. The “Name the Chimp” competition captivated many of
the children and his name can now be revealed as Roger!
PreSchool raised £140 on their hamper which was won by the
Devers Family.

Advent is Here
This week we lit the first candle on our Advent Wreath.
Our children discussed the themes of “Waiting” and
“Preparation” while thinking about The Holy Family and their journey

Our Year of Mercy
Pope Francis has written to all families through our Parish
and Schools to declare a “Holy Year” from December 8th.
The year has been given the title “The Year of Mercy”.
Here at St. Mary’s our children will seek to undertake works
of charity and mercy to answer The Holy Father’s call. Our
Year 5/6 children are already in action—making cards of
support for young people wrongly imprisoned in The Congo.
They are sending their cards to Amnesty International who
will give them to two teenagers who have been in prison for
eight months for attending a pro-democracy workshop. In
the coming months read all about how our children are being
“Good Samaritans” in this special year.

Florence Nightingale Day
Year 3 and 4 enjoyed a day of historical drama
last week. The children held a “Real History”
event that used props and costumes that allowed them to investigate the work of Florence
Nightingale. With St. Mary’s being transformed into a Scutari field hospital the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Our Christmas Tree Gifts
From Monday children are welcome to
place gifts under the Christmas Tree.
Once again our gifts will be supporting the Nugent
Care Homeless Appeal. Children may bring in a
shoebox or small package containing toiletries
such as: shower gel, tooth brushes, soap, toothpaste etc. The gifts will be given to families who
are living in temporary accommodation for a range
of reasons this Christmastime. Our friends at
Nugent Care are always amazed by the generosity
of our families and our children’s kindness.
Christmas Lunch—Friday
11th December
If your child usually has a packed lunch on a
Friday and would like to participate in the
Christmas Lunch, please let Mrs. Marshall
