Procedure Handbook
Classroom Reference
Guide
1
Hello! Welcome to Mrs. Miller’s
class! We are going to have so much
fun this year learning new things,
getting better at being organized,
and making new friends. There are a
few things we all have to do in order
to make our classroom run smoothly.
Please take a moment to glance
through my classroom procedures. If
at any time we need to check and see
how something is done, we can look
back in the book to make sure we are
following the procedures.
When students forget procedures,
we will look back in the manual to
find out what we should be doing.
I know we are going to have a
fantastic year!

or SSI classroom.
2.
Come in quietly and get your
folder from the bin.
3. Sit quietly and begin the warm-up
activity and wait for additional
instructions.
4
Pencil Sharpening
1. If your pencil breaks during our
class, you can solve your problem by
switching out your pencil for a new
one. These pencils are located in
containers around our room.
Morning Work
5
You will complete morning work in your
homeroom classroom first thing in the
morning. 
R-Time Tuesdays
6
You will complete your R-Time lesson
with your homeroom teacher.

Bathroom/Drinks
1.
Please try to use the restroom before
entering the SSI room. Our time is short
and we want to use all of our time
learning!
2.
You are free to use the bathroom as
long as Mrs. Miller is not giving direct
instruction, unless it is an emergency.
3.
When you are done, wash your hands.
4.
If you need a drink please raise your
hand and ask.
8
Asking a Question
1.
Raise your hand quietly. Please do
not speak when someone else is speaking.
2.
If I see your hand, I know you have
a question and I will give you time to
ask. You do not need to wave your hand
in the air or make noises. This is
disrespectful to me and to other
students.
3.
Mrs. Miller will let you know when
it is a calling out time and when it is a
raise your hand time. Please listen to
find out what “time” it is!
4.
Raise your hand only after the
speaker is finished talking and has asked
for questions or comments.

While Others are Talking
1.
We all want to be respected and
heard. This is why when another student
is talking to the class during a lesson,
we all will look at this student and
actively listen to them. Everyone has
such great ideas and it is important that
we hear everyone!
2.
We are a community of students who
know how to make responsible and
respectful choices that we can be proud
of. Therefore we will be respectful of
others.
10
Entering the Classroom
1.
We enter our classroom quietly.
Please come in and go to your seat. Mrs.
Miller will give you instructions when
everyone is seated.
Exiting the Classroom
1.
When it is time to leave the room,
Mrs. Miller will ask you to line up. Do
not get out of your seat until you have
been asked. Problems lining up will
result in us having to practice.
2.
We wait in line quietly.
11
Moving about the
Building
1.
Other students are learning and we do
not have the right to take that away from
them. We walk down the hall quietly. We
are responsible students who respect the
rights of students who are learning.
2.
We walk on the right hand side of
the hallway and stay in a line, one
student behind the other.
3.
There is always a line leader (a
student who demonstrates appropriate line
behavior) and a caboose will always walk
last.
4.
Being appropriate in line means:
*keep your hands to yourself (this
means no touching anything or anyone.)
*walk facing forward and stay behind
the person in front of you. We are all
going to the same place, so there is no
need to push and rush!
5.
Failure to walk appropriately in the
halls means we will practice.
 Teachers will walk beside or behind
the line.
12
 Stop signs posted in hall
 No leaping through lines
Take Home Binder/Folder
You will not have a take home folder from
SSI. All of your take home papers will come
from your classroom teacher.
13
Packing up and Exiting at the
end of Class
1.
You may not pack up until Mrs. Miller
has given you permission to do so.
2.
Wait quietly while others pack up.
This will help pack up time go quickly!
3.
When it is time to leave, you will
line up quietly and wait to be dismissed.
14
Recognition
Thank you for making good choices! You
can be recognized with one or more stickers
from your teacher. You can also earn one
or more Star Cards! You are able to earn
more than one sticker or Star Card
depending on class performance and your
level of participation. Star Cards will be
used in the building-wide drawing. The
best reward of all is getting to feel good
about yourself and your choices!
15
