CAM CABIN CRAFTS OUR MISSION “The Mission of the Coalition for Appalachian Ministry is to make a positive impact wherever Reformed tradition and Appalachian culture come together by networking with church and community to provide educational and service opportunities.” CAM connects Local stories with a global audience Oral tradition with internet technology Local faces with national issues Dignity with justice and hopelessness with vision Indigenous human needs with savvy advocates in the center of power Experience and information with God’s passion for people The faces of humanity with Christ’s command to be servants Volunteers with mission service projects and ÄYZ[OHUKL_WLYPLUJLZ Service projects with willing hands and skilled labor Home-based crafters with a regional fairmarket outlet Five Reformed denominations and dozens of regional judicatories with opportunities for common mission Hundreds of congregations and ministries across thirteen states with a common cause Denominational funding programs with local project support and evaluation Church pastors with the culture, history and social structures of Appalachia Church people with the vitality of ministry in small membership churches HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE IN MINISTRY IN APPALACHIA The Purpose of CAM Cabin Crafts is To encourage Appalachian crafters to provide Appalachian made, hand crafted items that share our culture with the purchasers; To provide an outlet for the sale of Appalachian craft items and income for the crafters, many of whom are low to moderate income persons; To promote the organizations and crafters who provide the products; To supply a setting in which the values of (WWHSHJOPHUJ\S[\YLHYLHMÄYTLKHUKYLZV\YJLZ for that culture are available. Currently we work with 125 crafters and craft groups located in 7 of the 13 Appalachian states. The Coalition for Appalachian Ministry began in 1965 as an agency of the Synods and Presbyteries of its member denominations. Today congregations and individuals are taking greater responsibility for mission in Appalachia, and are getting involved in a couple of ways. CAM VOLUNTEER PROGRAM CAM’s Volunteer Program is a ministry of sharing and mutual respect in which those serving and those being served learn from each other. CAM provides: Lists of places seeking volunteers and their requirements; Manuals to help those planning to go on a mission work trip and for those planning to host a work group; Introduction to the Appalachia region and culture. The Weller Cottage The CAM Craft Cabin is located 10 miles south of Pigeon Forge on route 321 at: 1329 Wears Valley Road Townsend, Tennessee 37882-3427 Phone 865-448-5940 Open - March-December Hours - Generally, 10am to 5pm Monday-Thursday 12am to 6pm on Friday & Saturday. Online shopping is also available at: www.appalachianministry.org/shop The Weller Cottage, named after Jack Weller who led in the establishing CAM, serves as a modest retreat center for CAM.
