Wix: Step-by

Wix:
Step-by-Step Tips
I thought I liked the original theme I chose, but now I’m thinking I want something different.
Unfortunately, once you make a website with Wix, you can’t change the theme
without losing all of your content. If you think you can decide on another theme,
go for it!
If you think you might be switching your theme around some more, maybe check
out Weebly. Weebly is another easy-to-use web builder that has the same drag
and drop interface, but it keeps all of your content if you decide to change your
theme. Downside? You get less creative control.
I want my fonts and colors to be consistent throughout my website. Where do I go to do that?
Anything related to
visual appeal
can be found under the “
add text”
textbox.
Click the side button that has a plus sign on it and then go over to text. There, you
will see “
Themed Text
,” which is a list of fonts that are handpicked to match the
theme’s look and feel.
Click the “Page Title” for the page titles, “Large Heading” for large headings, etc.
You’ll also notice different fonts below. Once the text is in the site, you can
change any further settings such as color and size here. Whether it’s paragraph
titles, texts, links, or your navigation bar, you can alter both the color, font, and
size after clicking it.
I already have a contact page, but want a sub-page for my resume underneath it.
Easy! Start by clicking the “
page tab”
at the top. A
sidebar
will appear with the
pages you already have on the navigation menu. Click the “
Add Pages”
button at
the bottom of this sidebar. Name it and click Done. Click and drag the page
under your Contact page and to the right. This will create a subpage.
I have a professional headshot on my computer and want to add it to my About Me page.
Snaps for having a professional picture! You’ll want to head over to the “
add
button”
the sidebar. Click “
image”
and then click “
My Image Uploads
.” Just click
the orange button on the top right to upload your images!
I have some great pictures that I would love to include on my website as well!
Visuals are great! You have a lot of options about how you can display these. If
you have one really good picture, think about adding this as a
header image o
n
your home page. You can also add other images in the build section through the
galleries
or
slideshow
feature. These can be found under the add image sidebar
on the left.
But I want to display some text with my image.
And you can! Once you insert the i
mage
, you can add text underneath it so that it
has a caption.
I have some work samples that I want to display on a page. How should I organize them?
Wix has some pretty cool
templates
specifically for
Portfolios and CVs
. When
you decide to create a site, you might check out some of these templates. They
typically have some good ways to display work samples.
If you aren’t using a template or you aren’t satisfied by the setup that comes with
the template, you can always make your own! Just
drag and drop a
ny text and
image elements that you see fit!
I don’t want to upload an entire paper I wrote for my work samples page, but the project exemplifies
certain skills that I would want a potential employer to see.
No worries! We suggest taking a
screenshot
of that project and uploading it as
an
image
on Wix. You can link it out to both the image or even a button. Simply
click the image or button
and choose the
link option
. You can connect it to a
file, external source, another page on your site, etc.
Wix also has some cool Word
Icons
listed under
Add
>>
More
if you want this
downloading button to look a little more spiffy. Make sure you have the links
open in a new tab as well.
Where’s the save button? I want to make sure I don’t lose everything on my site.
Good question! Wix does
not
save automatically, so whenever you make
changes, make sure that you click S
ave
on the top right!
I want to make sure I linked the right documents to each button. How do I check for this?
That's a good idea. You want to make sure your links work b
efore y
ou publish
your final website. To check that, you can click the
preview
button on the top
right. This gives you a preview of the actual website without having to publish it.
I want to test my site but I’m not ready for other people to see it just yet!
Completely understandable. There are two ways to deal with this. You can keep
saving
and then
previewing
your Wix whenever you want and it won’t be
published publicly until you hit
Publish.
Your second option is to remove your website from S
EO
searches. This means
that it won’t show up when people Google your topic. Essentially, people will
only be able to view your site if you give them the link. To do this, click the “
Site
”
option on the top toolbar. A drop down menu will appear and you will want to
click “
Site
Settings

.” Then click the menu option on the side that says “
SEO.
” Click
the toggle button next to the option: “Allow search engines to include your site in
search results.”
I want to see how many people visit my site!w
Just add the
Web-Stat feature
. (see the details below). This is located under the
Add button on the left side on the Editor page. Click “More” and then scroll all the
way down to the bottom and you should see a purple box with triangles labeled
“Web-Stat.” This will give you real-time traffic and stats.
Happy Creating!
