Welcome to our programme and details about our new projects. This year marks the 25 anniversary of Nigel’s iconic album THE RIVER, which we are celebrating by releasing a very special celebratory edition with beautiful new cover and extra live track. He has also spent the winter creating an album of music that is conceived as both a companion to The River and a freshly-‐envisioned experience of sacred waters. FLOW is graceful, spacious music; an improvisation created around delicate sounds and resonant flutes, designed for healing journeys and peaceful contemplation. We will include music from both these albums at our concerts this year. Carolyn's WEAVERS’ ORACLE will soon enter its second edition and her new work will be published in the early winter: the first volume in an illustrated series, BOOK OF HAG (First Season: Bark) and a spoken word album called COPPER TALES (A Burnished Hoard). More details to be revealed as the year unfolds! Carolyn is co-‐hosting three PACHAMAMA EVENINGS later this year, part of her Bolivian project, and there is an Arctic workshop journey WHEN WOMEN DRUM TO THE NORTH planned for March 2018. Our popular DARTMOOR FLUTE & DRUM MAKING WEEKENDS are full for 2017 but we are taking names for the 2018 sessions so please contact us if you are interested. We are already making music plans for 2018; these include a weekend event at our farm that celebrates wild and sacred waters, and contributing some exciting music projects to the Dartmoor Resonance Festival during the next midsummer. Thank you so much for your support and interest in our work. We hope to meet you during the coming year, with love from Nigel & Carolyn.

Journey to the Bolivian Andes. This is envisioned as a symbolic affirmation at this time of tumult, a remembering of kindness and wild tenacious hope in empowering our custodianship of the earth, and a thread to add to the ongoing work of womankind in strengthening connections between our ancient lands, our diverse cultures and our resilient, brilliant spirits. We would like to invite you to be woven into the cloth of our journey! We are hosting three Pachamama evenings during the winter to raise energy for this project and to gather your prayers and blessings to carry to Bolivian sisters. We will offer music, songs, stories, rituals, traditional Andean food and drink plus our own craft works. We will share words from the Bolivian Pachamama Law; we will teach you to sing to the Great Mother in Quechua. Together we will weave a cloth that catches our collective vision for this world. During the last two years Carolyn has been developing a new programme of women's workshop journeys on Dartmoor; a series of circles and gatherings that have been formed around the ancient power and deep mythology of wild sanctuary and sacred hearths. HEARTH weekends are for women who seek sister circles that are safe, inspiring and empowering; who want to explore their own story within the sacred house of women. THRESHOLD weekends are for women who have previously worked on this land with Carolyn; who are willing to dissolve boundaries, travel beyond edges, deepen their own journey. TRAIL weekends are for women who want to pilgrimage into the wild belly of the moors; to travel with ancestor women into shrine and beneath cairn and along high ridge. This series of workshops will continue through 2017 and will then start to shift shape. A new Dartmoor apprenticeship programme is being created, THE BRAIDED RIVER, a cord bound with ancient trainings born directly from the wild ancestral landscape, which reaches both backwards and forwards as it gathers and honours women who have already made a regular contribution to the work that is shared here, and opens up places for women who are new to these circles. The Hearth weekends will continue to be a gateway through which newly-‐arriving women may have their first experience of working in a circle of sisters in this wild heart of Dartmoor. The workshop weekends for 2017 are all filled, although you are welcome to send in an application in case of cancellations; the dates may be found on our website. If you are interested in receiving more information later this year about the apprenticeship programme, please email us. Carolyn may be contacted through [email protected] More information at www.seventhwavemusic.co.uk/womens-‐workshops DARTMOOR DRUMS & WILDWOOD FLUTES Creating sacred instruments with Nigel Shaw & Carolyn Hillyer What does it mean when women drum to the north? We drum to the north of the landscape, to the north of our life journeys, to the north in our ancestral memory. When we head north we are making a journey of connection and remembrance with our deepest rhythms; we are travelling to a boundary with the wild in our souls, and with the challenges that women undertake to mend and heal and strengthen our shared lives on this earth. 2017: May 26-‐28 & Sept 1-‐3 Both weekends are now full; reserve list available. 2018: May & September Dates tbc; we are now taking names for anyone interested in attending. Each workshop weekend starts 6pm Friday and finishes 4pm Sunday. Participants may book to make either a drum (12 places) or a flute (7 places). Camping (free) or cottage accommodation (additional charge). Vegetarian dinners included. Evening circles & roundhouse ceremony. All materials provided. Next March in the small town of Jokkmokk, Arctic Sweden, an exhibition called TRUMMA FÖR TRÄD (WOMEN DRUM FOR TREES) will be held by Gun, Cedar, Carolyn & Nina at the beautiful Ájtte Sámi Culture Museum. We are creating a women's journey that connects to the exhibition and offers five days of profound experiences within this far-‐northern landscape and community; a gathering of sisters who honour a vision of ancient drums as symbols and tools in our gentle and fierce work of protecting the sacred songs of the land. The programme includes workshop sessions with ancient craft, shared story, drums, music and song; exhibition and museum tour; sacred women's council; Sámi women’s traditions; sled dog trip; sauna on the ice; Sámi dinner; concert, ceremony, celebration. Dates: March 26 Monday to April 1 Sunday (including travel days). Travel and workshop support given by three 'journey mothers'. Flights to Lulea (Arctic Circle), coach to Jokkmokk, accommodation in shared rooms in cosy 100 year-‐old self-‐catering hostel (exclusive use). Maximum 24 places available. (You do not need to own or play a drum to be involved – to share the vision of this journey is enough!) If you are interested in being part of this journey please email Carolyn and Cedar for more details, cost and booking form: info@seventh wave music.co.uk We have been teaching traditional instrument-‐making on Dartmoor for over 20 years, offering the chance to handcraft a beautiful deer skin plus wild horse skin rattle OR a unique wooden flute created from native timbers. Nigel has developed the original ancient Native American design into a flute that plays the songs and prayers of these islands, offering a choice of beautifully grained woods (such as silver birch, cedar, ash and other hedgerow trees) all harvested locally from the moors. Carolyn works with red deer skins for the drums and wild horse hide for the rattles, both prepared by her in our small farm tannery and sourced with great care and respect from Dartmoor, all carrying the subtle and untamed spirit of these ancient hills. The drum hoops are made by hand from northern birch; the drums are trimmed with deer leather also prepared by us. We teach the instruments over a full weekend period: this includes separate flute and drum teaching groups, a shared roundhouse ceremony, informal sessions about playing techniques and the traditions of the instruments, a walk on the open moor and the quiet sanctuary of this ancient farm. Cost: £250 flute / £265 drum & rattle To be on the list for 2018 dates and booking form please email us: [email protected]
