TKAM Portfolio Project

To Kill a Mockingird –Portfolio Project

Due Date: June 2nd – (See rubrics below…)
1. Music: Make a CD of at least 5 songs that represent the themes/characters/events in
the story. Make a cover for the CD. Also, write an essay that explains the relationship
between the songs and To Kill a Mockingbird. Make sure there is at least one paragraph
written for each song. Each paragraph should make connections between the song and
the book. It should be evident from these paragraphs that you have read and that you
have fully understood the themes and how they are connected to the lyrics of the songs
you have chosen. Your CD should include your full name and class period on the inside.
2. Character Memory Box: Memory boxes are decorative boxes (usually made of
wood), which contain personal items important to their owner. You must create a
memory box for either Scout, Jem, Dill, or Boo. You may use a shoebox or other
container to make your memory box; it doesn't have to be made of wood. Decorate your
box and make it look attractive! This should be something that your character would be
proud of. Include items important to your chosen character. Review chapters 1-9 for
inspiration. Consider the following: what events have occurred? What might your
character keep to remember these events?
You should have at least 10 items in the box. Your memory box should show that you are
familiar with the plot and the characters in To Kill A Mockingbird. Some suggestions:
Letters, photographs, postcards and souvenirs are all good items for the memory box and
can be easily created! Think about who your character is close to and what he/she does
for fun. Remember, this should represent your chosen character! You must include a one
page essay of why you chose all the items in the memory box.
3. 3D Model of Maycomb County: Review Chapters 1 and 2 of To Kill A Mockingbird
to visualize the layout of Maycomb County. You must create a 3D model of Maycomb
County according to how it is described in the book. Please keep in mind it is a 3D
version of Maycomb County, not a drawing of it! All aspects of the model should be
labeled in order for me to tell what you have/have not included.
