Olive oil was provided for free by a local olive oil company to the Mediterranean diet groups but not to the control group. If you provide something for free to people, especially in terms of food, you are more likely to eat it regularly. In many ways, this diet study was a free advertisement for olive oil, and many of the researchers had multiple financial relationships with nutritional or food companies.
