PowerPoint 2013 – What’s New? More Choices for Getting Started Instead of opening with a blank presentation, PowerPoint 2013 gives you several ways to start a presentation using a template, a theme, a recent presentation, a not-so-recent presentation, or a blank one. New & Improved Presenter Tools Hassle-Free Presenter View Presenter View allows you to see your notes on your monitor while the audience only sees the slide. In previous PowerPoint, it was more difficult to figure out who saw what on which monitor. Use Presenter View on one monitor – Presenter view no longer requires multiple monitors. Zoom in on a slide – Click the magnifying glass to zoom in on charts, diagrams, or any other figure you want to emphasize for your audience. Jump to slide – Use Slide Navigator to browse to other slides in the presentation. Automatic set up – PowerPoint can automatically sense your computer setup and choose the right monitor for Presenter View. Widescreen Friendly In PowerPoint 2013, there is a 16:9 layout, and new themes designed to take advantage of widescreen possibilities. Motion Path Improvements When you create a motion path, PowerPoint shows you where your object will end up. Your original object stays put, and a “ghost” image moves along the path to the endpoint. Creating a Motion Path 1. In PowerPoint, select a desired object. 2. Click the ANIMATIONS tab. 3. In the Advanced Animation group, click the Add Animation drop-down menu. 4. Scroll down the menu to the Motion Paths section. Better Design Tools Theme Variations Themes now come with a set of variations, like different color palettes and font families. In PowerPoint, select the desired shapes, example below: New Eyedropper for Color Matching You can capture the exact color from an object on your screen, and then apply it to any shape. 2. The FILE tab provides file management commands (e.g., Save As, Open, and Print). FORMAT Tab This new tab shows on the Ribbon when you click a text or an object in a slide. It shows format options for the selected text, picture, video, or object. Saving Locations The new office 2013 provides 3 saving location options. SkyDrive – A Microsoft cloud storage. Users will be able to use this file hosting service to upload and sync files (a Microsoft account is required). Computer – Click Browse to navigate to the desired location. Add a Place – Allow the users to add Office 365 SharePoint and SkyDrive location for quick access. Saving a Presentation as a PDF File 1. Click the FILE tab > Save As. 2. Click the Browse icon. Click the Save as type drop-down list and select PDF (*.pdf). 6. Click Save. Saving a Presentation as a Video 1. Click the FILE tab > Export. 2. Click Create a Video. 3. Edit the video quality option, e.g., Computer & HD Displays. 4. Edit the timing option, if desired. 5. Change the Seconds spent on each slide setting, if desired. 6. Click Create Video. a. Save As window will pop up. 7. Navigate to the desired location. 8. Enter the desired name in the File name field. 9. Choose to Save as type of MPEG-4 Video or Windows Media Video. 10. Click Save. Removing a Basic Background from an Image 1. Select the image and click the FORMAT tab. a. A selection box appears on the image, with the suggested portions to be removed highlighted in magenta. Use the selection handles to modify the area to be removed. 3. Click Mark Areas to Keep or Mark Areas to Remove to customize the image. 4. When finished, click Keep Changes. Trimming a Video Clip 1. Select the video, click the PLAYBACK tab. 2. In the Editing group, click Trim Video. 3. To trim the beginning of the clip, drag the Start Time marker (green). 4. To trim the ending of the clip, drag the End Time marker (red). Organize Slides in Sections 1. In the Slides pane, right-click between two slides. 2. Click Add Section. 3. Right-click the section marker named Untitled Section and click Rename Section. Page | 3 http://ipfw.edu 4. Enter a name for the section and click Rename. 5. In the Advanced Animation group, click Animation Painter. Working with Sections Moving a Section 1. Right-click the section’s name, click Move Section Up or Move Section Down. Collapsing Sections 1. To collapse a section, click the arrow next to the section’s name. 2. To collapse all, right-click the section’s name. a. Click Collapse All. Expanding Sections 1. To expand a section, click the arrow next to the section’s name. 2. To expand all sections, right-click the section’s name. a. Click Expand All. Removing Sections 1. Right-click section’s name, a. To remove a section, click Remove Section. b. To remove all sections, click Remove All Sections. Copying Animation between Objects 1. Select the object or text with the animation to copy. 2. Broadcast a Presentation Remotely Note: This feature requires a Microsoft account. 1. Click the SLIDE SHOW tab. 2. In the Start Slide Show group, click the Present Online drop-down menu > Office Presentation Service. 3. If desired, check Enable remote viewers to download the presentation. 4. Click CONNECT > Sign In. 5. Sign in with your Microsoft e-mail account. a. Microsoft account: Hotmail, SkyDrive, Xbox LIVE, or Windows Phone. b. Note: The process may take several minutes. 6. You can now send the link to the remote viewers. a. Or click Send in Email to send the link via e-mail. 7. Click START PRESENTATION to begin. 8. When finished, in the Present Online group, click End Online Presentation. 9. Click End Online Presentation to confirm. Page | 4
