faq
i will be midway
through my licensing
cycle when bcrea
implements the new
pdp in november.
when will the change
to a, b and c types of
credits apply to me?
The change to the A,
B and C credit types
will take place as
soon as your board
adopts the new PDP.
At that point, you
will be eligible to use
Category C credits
to fulfill your credit
requirements (with
a maximum of 6
credits coming from
Category C events).
will i need more
credits per cycle?
No, you will still need
18 credits per cycle.
what if i
attend too many
category c events?
You can attend as
many as you like, but
only 2 events at 3
credits each will count
towards your PDP
requirements.
Look at
category c
Category C is an exciting expansion of the PDP program,
designed to recognize those informal and social learning
opportunities that REALTORS® value.
Initially, Category C will include BCREA-accredited member board
education events. Like the rest of the new PDP, Category C is designed
to grow over time, eventually expanding to include other industryrelated events, conferences, etc.
Any accredited member board event will provide 3 PDP credits.
REALTORS® can take a maximum of two events - or 6 of their required
18 PDP credits – for credit in their licensing cycle.
BCREA has been running Category C pilots with member boards over
the last 2 years, and REALTOR® response to the newly-accredited events
has been overwhelming positive.
what if i want to
attend more than two
category c events in my
licensing cycle?
Please feel free!
However, only a
maximum of two events
count for PDP credits in
any one licensing cycle.
are all member board’s
events accredited as
category c events?
No – your member board
decides which events
meet the specific criteria
for PDP education
events, and submits
an application for
accreditation to BCREA.
If your member board
event is accredited for
Category C credits, it will
be explicitly advertised
as such.

2013 FVREB Conference and Tradeshow
At launch of the new
PDP in November,

education events are

New Course Formats
MORE CHOICE IN WHERE AND
HOW TO LEARN
Every REALTOR® has unique preferences related to how, when and

its roster of online offerings, including 6-credit courses and the new
3-credit PDP On Demand offerings.
◆ Blended – a new course format for BCREA, where at least one
component of the course is completed online, and another
component completed face-to-face. This format will debut with the
launch of the new Strata Fundamentals course in March 2014.
◆ Distance-based – currently under development, this format
will allow learners to join real-time, virtual courses from
anywhere in the province, using an online collaboration and
video-conference platform.

best possible value-added service to our clients
. . . and now with the new developments to the
program, it has become an even more effective
industry asset.”
William Lacy, REALTOR®, Quesnel BC
“I'm ecstatic about the new PDP education
model for REALTORS®! In my 14 years of selling, I
have always attended the Legal Update courses
and the limited selection of other courses offered
to maintain my required PDP credits.
My frustration with the old system was that there
was limited new material, an archaic course
environment and lack of flexibility on times the
courses were offered.
The new system is fantastic! It is easier to track the
credits you have and what you need; the variety in
selection is excellent for the variety of issues that
we need to be current on and the environment
for learning has become more flexible & fun.
Personally, I want the public to view REALTORS®
with the same regard as Lawyers & Accountants,
so being educated on the current Real Estate
related topics is paramount to earning the respect
from the public and our clients.”
Tamara Terlesky, REALTOR®, Kelowna BC
“The new PDP program will benefit all REALTORS®.
All the way from new REALTORS® to brokers. There
will be a course for everyone!”
Judy Klassen, REALTOR®, Princeton BC
“As a Commercial REALTOR®, and Strata Manager,
I have spent many classroom hours taking
“mandatory” courses that, while interesting,
had little or no bearing on the work that I do as
a REALTOR®.
I’m excited about the increased flexibility
available in the new system, and feel that courses
will have a lot greater value for REALTORS® not in
the residential sale business!”
Dennis Fimrite, Managing Broker, Saanichton BC

A FINANCIAL INVESTMENT IN
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
Investment in a new and enhanced PDP program will not
be costless.
At the same time, BCREA is committed to delivering improved
educational value, while keeping the resulting cost increases as
low as possible. In an effort to minimize the financial impact of the
improvements, BCREA is phasing in new courses, course revisions,
and other improvements over the next three years.
In order to fund the new PDP, a BCREA member dues increase will go
into effect on January 1, 2014. The increase is $2.83 per month. BCREA is sensitive to the fact that we are increasing member dues,
and want to emphasize that the $2.83/month increase will go directly
to supporting the PDP program.
