Changing your Password
If you require any assistance, please contact the IT Helpdesk, Technology Support Desk or visit a Library
support desk in your Learning Centre.
1. Please visit the Self-Service Password Management service at
http://cardiffmet.ac.uk/password/. This enables you to enter your student number, date of
birth and send a security code to your mobile phone or email address which you can then
use to change your password.
2. When you visit the site, enter the details required in the form below and click Finish.
3. This will take you to the screen below. Please choose whether you would like a token sent
to your email address or mobile phone – or both? Then click on Get Token.

A token will be sent to your email address or mobile within a few
minutes and is valid for 60 minutes. If its sent to your email, you will
be able to click on a link to revisit this page or simply enter the token
number here when you receive it.

Enter the token number into the entry box and click UseToken.

You can then enter your new password and click Finish.

If you are on a PC on campus, the easiest way to change your password is on a desktop PC.
Changing your Password on a CardiffMet PC
Log onto a Cardiff Metropolitan PC with your current username and password.
Once the desktop has loaded press the Ctrl, Alt and Delete keys simultaneously.

Click on Change a Password.

Enter your current password, followed by your new password. Remember to choose a suitable password.
Choosing a suitable password is very important. Please read the following page.
You must confirm your new password by entering it
twice; then click on the
arrow.
Note that to avoid any authentication issues, it is
recommended that you log off and log back onto the
PC using your new password.

10. Choosing a suitable password
Your password should be easy for you to remember but also difficult for others to guess. Therefore
there are certain requirements your password must meet:
 At least 7 characters
 Must include upper and lower case letters
 At least one number or symbol
 Can’t be similar to previous passwords
 Can’t be similar to your name or student number

MUST NOT contain the following symbols:
& \/ # + = < > % , ; ` ¬ ^ £ $ “ @
Steps for choosing a password:
a.
You can think of a favourite car for example such as Ferrari
b. Think of an important year such as 1066
c.
Join these to make Ferrari1066
d. Replace the letter e for a 3 to make F3rrari1066
e.
Then add a symbol, an ! is usually the best one to make F3rrari1066!
It may take you a few times to get a suitable and acceptable combination which adheres to our minimum
complexity requirements.
