1. What is the Subject?
(What is this artifact or document?)
2. What is the Occasion?
(When was this piece made? What time and place,
or circumstance encouraged its creation? What was it used for?)
3. Who is the Audience?
(Who was this made for? What individual or group
of people is the piece directed?)
4. What is the Purpose? (Why was this piece made? What did the creator
want the audience to think, say, or do?)
5. What do special qualities, such as weight, size, color, shape, material made
from and/or inscriptions, suggest about the times in which it was created?
6. What other reasonable guesses can be made about the object?
