Planning your visit to AWE As AWE is a nuclear licensed site, there are a number of security requirements that visitors will need to observe. We have therefore produced this pack to provide you with the information you need to help you prepare for your visit. Prior to your visit To gain access to AWE sites, we require some personal details for security purposes. Full Name National Insurance Number Date of Birth Place of Birth Nationality You will be asked by your host to provide this information before your visit. The details will be entered into our visitor system to enable us to easily identify you upon your arrival. Parking at AWE If you are travelling by road, there are some visitor parking bays at the main entrances to our sites. In order to park in these bays you will need to provide your vehicle details at Reception (registration number, make, model and colour). A parking permit will be issued for display in your vehicle for the duration of your visit. Keep on the A4 for approximately four miles until you reach a Exit the motorway onto the A339 towards Basingstoke. Take the second exit at the next roundabout towards Basingstoke roundabout. Exit the roundabout on the first left sign posted A340 Basingstoke. Continue on the A340, following sign posts to Basingstoke. AWE Aldermaston will become visible on the left hand side of the road as you approach Tadley. For the West Gate turn left at the mini roundabout, sign-posted ‘West Gate’. For the Main Gate continue across the mini roundabout. At the next roundabout, take the first exit, sign-posted to Tadley. At the traffic lights on the triangular gyratory, stay in the left hand lane past the Shell garage. The Main Gate is situated on the left hand side of the road. A339. Continue on the A339 for a further two miles and exit on the slip road towards Tadley and Aldermaston. At the roundabout take the forth exit sign posted A340 Aldermaston. Stay on the A340 for a further six miles until you enter Tadley. Continue on through Tadley until you reach a triangular gyratory. For the Main Gate use the right hand lane and, turning right then move into the left hand lane and bear left past the Shell garage. The Main Gate is situated on the left hand side of the road. For the West Gate remain in the left hand lane. The West Gate is situated on the right hand side of the road. Travel along the A33 for approximately ½ a mile through one set of Exit the motorway on to the A339 toward Basingstoke. Take the second exit at the next roundabout towards Basingstoke traffic lights. Use the right hand lane and turn right at the second set of traffic lights on to Mereoak Lane. Take the first exit from the roundabout to remain on Mereoak Lane. Travel for approximately ½ a mile then take the first available right turn on to Grazeley Green Road. Follow the road until you pass under a railway bridge and turn immediately left on to Goring Lane. Follow the road past The Old Bell on your left and take the second right turn on to James Lane. Follow the road past the Civil Service Club on your right and turn right on to The Mearings. Follow the road until you reach AWE Burghfield Main Gate. A339. Continue on the A339 for one mile and exit off of the slip road sign posted A33 Reading. Take the forth exit on to the A33 and continue on the A33 for a further 12 miles until you reach Three Mile Cross Roundabout. Take the first exit on the roundabout then take a right into Kybes Lane and then the next left into Pingewood road (just before the bridge over the M4). Keep heading west along Pingewood Road until you reach Amner’s Farm road. At the end of this road turn left onto Burghfield road. Head south for approximately 400m and take a left on to The Mearings. Follow the road until you reach AWE Burghfield Main Gate. Arriving at AWE To ensure that your access to the site is as swift as possible, please plan to arrive 30 minutes before your appointment/ meeting time to ensure that all safety and security measures are complete. Planning your visit to AWE Please ensure that you have contact telephone numbers for your host as this will ensure that we can contact them as soon as you are ready to enter site. You will be asked to provide proof of identity upon arrival. PASSPORT or PHOTOCARD driving licence are both acceptable. No other forms of photographic identity will be accepted. Please bring proof of identity with you even if you are an existing pass holder. The safety and security of our visitors is important to us. As part of security procedures, all new visitors to AWE will be required to watch our safety briefing. You may also be requested to have your vehicle or bags searched by our resident security officers. Site security We are unable to allow mobile telephones, laptops, USB sticks or camera/video recording devices into our sites, and therefore request that you make appropriate arrangements for these items prior to your visit. Alternatively they can be left in your car or at reception if required.It is essential that during your visit, briefcases and handbags are labelled with a suitable baggage tag.
