Drop it off at the reception desk so we can label it and have maintenance check that it works Safely before using in the room. Before you give a resident a drink, be sure to check first with the care team to ensure they can have regular fluids - prevent choking hazards! Please provide fluids regularly during your visit. Please do not leave any food or dairy or other perishable foods in the resident’s room. Food safety hazard! While visiting help to close curtains to block out direct sunlight, open windows, and keep residents’ rooms doors open to create airflow. Keep it cool! Visit in the LOWER MAIN RECREATION ROOM, Main floor or in the garden shade where it is cooler. Cool face cloths can be applied while you visit to aid in cooling a resident who is hot. Please ask for some face cloths. Loose, lightweight clothing should be made available- if the resident is confused you may be asked to remove out of season clothing. Provide a sun hat and label it with a permanent marker. Sunscreen is available on the main floor in the wellness room for the residents. Report to the nurse if you are concerned about your loved one becoming too hot! PAGE 5 Cooking Corner Watermelon Cooler 4-5 cups of seedless watermelon (1 medium-sized watermelon), cut into chunks 1/2 peeled cucumber, cut into chunks 5 -10 mint leaves roughly chopped 3 tablespoons of sugar 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice a pinch of salt Directions Depending on the size of your blender, you may have to do this in two batches. Divide your ingredients in half, and process it twice if need be. Place all the ingredients in a blender, and process until it smooth. Pour the mixture through a strainer into a bowl, pressing the solids with a wooden spoon to get all the liquid out. Place the watermelon mixture back in your blender and add ice cubes.
