PRESS STATEMENT
MESSAGE BY MINISTER OF HEALTH
IN CONJUNCTION WITH WORLD PHARMACISTS DAY
Today, 13,147 pharmacists in Malaysia will join with pharmacists from around
the world to celebrate “World Pharmacists Day”. The theme for this year’s
celebration is “Pharmacists: Your Partners in Health”, as announced by the
International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). The theme was chosen to
highlight the confidence and close collaboration that pharmacists have with
patients as well as other health care professionals. Globally, three million
pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists around the world act as partners to
their patients, healthcare professionals and scientists. They work closely and
diligently together in ensuring patients receive safe and effective care.
Malaysia has a pharmacist to population ratio of 1:2315 as of 1st September
2015. The role of pharmacists in Malaysia had evolved fromproduct-centered to
service-based and now this profession has transformed into patient-focused to
address the needs of healthcare industry.
Indeed, pharmacist are part of an integral system within the healthcare services
in Malaysia.Regardlessof whether they work in hospitals, rural clinics,
community pharmacies or in the industrial sector. They form as a cohesive
element in ensuring general wellbeing of patients and providing highly
specialized services in clinical areas.
As Malaysia moves forward to becoming a developed nation, pharmacists will
continue to play a significant role in realizingthe Ministry of Health vision, “A
Nation Working Together for Better Health”
I would like to wish all pharmacists in Malaysia “Happy Pharmacists Day”,with
the hope that we will continue to strive to achieve better quality services and
patient care.
