2016-2017 District IV Honor Band Information Congratulations on being selected for the District IV Honor Bands! If you are reading this information, you have worked very hard to get here! Some information to make the upcoming honor band weekend in Hammond run smoothly: Middle School Sightreading Session The middle school sightreading session is scheduled for Tuesday, January 10 at Denham Springs Junior High School. Symphonic Band will be in the band room. Concert band will be in the cafeteria. The session begins promptly at 6:30 PM and ends at 8:30 PM. All middle school members must be present for the session for this rehearsal, or they will be replaced by the alternates. The only excused absences for these rehearsals are documented school-sponsored activities in which students are required to participate. In these cases, students must attend 51% of the rehearsal. Additionally, students must be accompanied by their band director or another adult chaperone for the duration of the sightreading session. No student will be allowed to remain who is unsupervised. Participation/Eligibility/Chaperones All students who were selected are required to participate in 100% of the honor band weekend in order to perform in the concert. Any student who misses a rehearsal in whole or in part will be dismissed from the honor band at that time. A director or representative from each school must also be present for the entirety of every rehearsal/concert in which they have students participating. If the responsible party is not in attendance, all of the students from that school will be dismissed. Directors or chaperones are responsible for the monitoring of their students during the lunch and dinner breaks. Meals are not provided. Honor Band Weekend Schedule The Honor Band Weekend is held on the campus of SLU in Hammond. The schedule for the weekend is as follows: Thursday, January 12 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM High School Symphonic Band on Pottle Stage High School Concert Band in Band Room Middle School Symphonic Band in Choir Room Middle School Concert Band in Union Ballroom (2nd Floor) Friday, January 13 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Saturday, January 14 8:30 – 9:30 AM 10:00 AM Middle School Dress Rehearsals in Columbia Theatre Middle School Concert in Columbia Theatre 9:30 – 11:00 AM High School Dress Rehearsals in Band Room & Pottle Stage 12:00 PM High School Concert in Columbia Theatre *h.s. students are responsible for transportation to the Columbia Columbia Theatre is located at 220 E Thomas St, Hammond, LA 70401 Stands: All students must provide their own music stands for rehearsals. Percussion Equipment: All percussionists are responsible for all small equipment and mallets needed for their parts. See parts in folder for specific assignments. Large percussion equipment will be provided. Concert Attire: Dress shall be consistent of the students’ concert uniform for their respective schools. Where a uniform does not exist, appropriate concert attire may be worn. TURN OVER FOR MAP Southeastern University Campus Map Student Union (MS Concert Band) Pottle Music Building (HS Bands, MS Symphonic Band, Concerts) ________________ Friendship Circle (Parking) Additional Parking Parking Limited parking is available around the “Friendship Circle”. Additional parking available near the student Union and Behind the Friendship Circle. Chaperones who are driving their own vehicles need to get a parking pass from the school band director on Thursday evening to park on campus Friday morning/afternoon. There are no restrictions on parking on Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday for the concert.
