Dear Host Family,
My name is Lea and I am French, I am an 17 year-old girl about to finish High School in France. I live in a flat with my parents and
my 13 year-old younger brother. We don't have any pets but I love animals.
I am actually in Grade 12 in a big high school of 1,500 pupils. I go to school everyday except on Saturdays and Sundays. My
majors are social and economics but I also attend Math, French, History, English, Spanish, Science and Sports. I love
Mathematics and foreign languages classes but I am also interested in all the other subjects. Usually school starts at 8AM and
finishes at 4PM and I spend at least 1 hours after school studying my lessons.
During my free time I practice surfing in a club since we live very close to the Atlantic Ocean. I spend as muich time as possible
in the water so no wonder I love all the water-related activities, such as swimming, stand up paddle and water-skiiing for example.
I also go to the fitness club because I try to stay fit but I love eating so much so its not easy! During the winter season I spend
most of my spare time skiing in the Alps or the Pyrenees on both the French and Spanish side. As far as my leisure time Is
concerned, I enjoy gong out with my friends, shopping and watching movies. In my family, each one of us lvoe the same sort of
sportive activities so we spend a lot of time togtether which is very important to me.
Aside from the activities we all like, our family life is quite common. My brother and I try to give a hand to my parents with the
household chores as much as we can. We are responsible for our bedrooms so we are used to tidy and clean them very often.
Sometimes we even cook the diner if we want to make a surprise to my mother! My father is a taxi driver so he often spends the
night outside driving people back home, it is thus important to be able help him with the chores during the day. My mother is a
lawyer assistant, and she also helps my father with his taxi business when she is free. My brother is in Grade 8 and he is very
active, just like me!
The reason I have decided to go to the United States is because I have always been fascinated by this country and I love
travelling. I would like to live for real what I see everyday on TV and for me, living in an American family would be the perfect
experience to discover a different and authentic way of life. I think I will end up this experience as a completely new person, more
mature and independent. At least, I hope so!
I intend to behave, while in your family, exactly as I am used to behave in my own family that is to say helping as much as I can
for the household chores and spending quality time with all of you. I hope my high school will provide some extra time activities
so that I would be able to getinvolved in the high school life. On the same pattern, I wish there will be some ways to get involved
in the community as well, because I believe in solidarity.
